Borrowed a TIG welder and spent the weekend fabricating a new exhaust for the old volvo. Welds were crap at first but started turning out nicely towards the end. Torch angle es muy importante. Car now runs lean as fuck. Either I screwed something up with the carbs when I removed them or things are flowing much better and bigger jets are required.

A ride was also ridden. The first fifteen minutes of a sub freezing ride really really suck.

I have officially recieved my first promotion. I am now the uniform Officer for the department. That means it is now my job to keep everyone in proper uniform, and explorer possible upgrades/changes. Fun fun, I love having an expense account

My youngest son's daycare is usually a 25 minute walk from home, up and over a hill. Took an extra 10 minutes today. The 2" of oatmeal consistency snow that hasn't been plowed yet sucked for pushing the stroller. Kinda like pushing through sand. uphill. But whatever, at least it was a decent workout! And it seems the fun part of winter has officially begun, so I'll take it.

Another boring week in the cube farm, but I'm working on a job application that's due at the end of the week. I haven't applied for a job in 8 years... kinda nervous.

I generally assumed Canadian strollers (prams) were fitted with tracks and skis for most of the year.

funny you should mention that. this is what I have:

the big wheels are great for going over snow and stuff. But I can also turn it into this for xc skiing:

I hadn't thought of transforming it caus' it didn't look like there was enough snow. plus I don't want to ruin the skis by dragging them through the salt and grit on the roads.

They're fucking expensive, but I can also do this with it, so it's really three-chariots-in-one:

I actually use all three modes a lot so it was worth it. We even have the double version of it too... The great thing is they hold their value really well for resale. I have a buddy who bought his used, sold it 5 years later for more than he paid for it...

but yeah, today was a workout.

Somewhere in PSP's family line is the reason why silicone packets in shoe boxes have a "do not eat" label on them.

I think I will start to make fatbike jog strollers. Gonna get rich or lose all my money trying.
A buddy of mine did just that. He laced fat rims to the Chariot hubs and takes his kid out on the abandoned rail lines just down the road from his place. I think he said the Chariot weighs upwards of 50 lbs with the kid inside. Heavy to say the least. I think he's also brought it on beach vacations too.

I hate fat bikes too much to even consider it.

edited to add: Do it. This guy did, and is probably rolling in it now, all set for early retirement and "spending more time with his kids" : http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/small-business/sb-money/valuation/thules-long-ride-to-buy-chariot-carriers/article559168/?page=all

need a pack and play
Pack and play is only useful for going on trips, and it really doesn't pack down small at all. Did you get enough swaddling blankets? Swaddling + Happiest baby on the block book == win.

you need baby einstein videos....visual crack for kids.
The only video content Mariko has watched so far is Facetiming with her grandparents, a dance from the Nutcracker before she saw the ballet, and part of an episode of Planet Earth.

old volvo
Old Volvo + carbs... early 240? P1800?! What are you hiding up in the woods?

I love this order of events. It all begins with my package from West Marine not showing up...

1. Call West Marine. They tell me to call the Post Office.
2. Call Post Office. They tell me to call FedEx for USPS tracking number.
3. Call FedEx for tracking number. FedEx tracking history differs from USPS tracking history.
4. Now attempting to call the Post Office back but get busy signal. Really?!? A business in 2015 doesn't have hold or multiple lines?!?

Sigh. Gotta enjoy doing all the leg work when you don't get your shit.

Morning Monkeys.

Company party was a blast Saturday. I was in charge of the drink tickets, so that was awesome. Had a lot of fun and the music wasn't as bad as it was last time. Jen and I started out alone on the dance floor, but it got pretty full once everyone had a few drinks in them. It seemed like everyone had a good time.

Had a small after party at Momo's, then the lady and I hit Kells Olympian for music, but they weren't set up yet. We ended up back at the room by 3:30 or so.

Dusting of snow my ass. Just spent the last hour shoveling. I might just dig out the snowshoes again and head up to Cheyenne Canyon with the dogs. Or I might just stay inside all day. Either is equally possible.

Had a couple of those on Saturday. Totally worth it.
5° colder and we'd probably have blizzard conditions. F all this rain.

Was distracted with work, as usual, and was thinking about the lean problem with the car. I was assuming the engine wasn't getting enough fuel as the wideband oxygen sensor was showing a lean condition. However, when solving problems it is not only important to consider all the potential problem causes but what else the data could be telling you. It doesn't make sense that things should run lean at small throttle openings because of more flowier exhaust. However more oxygen in the exhaust could indicate incomplete combustion. I had to mess with two ground straps when dicking with the exhaust. If my ignition doesn't have a good power connection my spark could be getting blown out under load. Will need to wait until the rain stops to confirm.

Found one of the ground straps was indeed loose. A test drive showed improvements in partial throttle openings but still lean when WFO. This more along the lines of what I expected with the more open exhaust. Looks like there was a bit of a weak spark and a larger main jet is still required. Now have to wait for jets to show up.
