where the trails are
this is such a reactionary, wrong-headed attitude. I see so many people of all ages out there on the multiuse paths in my neighborhood because of e-bikes. they are getting people out there, out of their cars.
I agree that any way to get motorists out of their cars is a win for them, 'Squeeb is managing to ride the 9ish miles to/from work every day, under his own power, which is fucking awesome.
-but-
Lately I encounter so many people on trails on ebikes, that have absolutely no business being on those trails as they have very limited actual bike handling skills they'd need to not break themselves.

I would have no problem with one

other than smelling like ass arriving at destination.

While it is undeniably true that e-bikes could reduce car traffic we're talking about Squeeb who posted that he'd already ridden his bike -- an acoustic bike! -- 9 times since he started his new jerb.

So maybe he doesn't need the e-assist that other more reluctant bike commuters might benefit from, and would be better served to buy winter biking gloves etc.

fair enough. there's definitely that. but there are also people like that on normal mountain bikes, too, just a bit closer to the trailhead perhaps.

i hate ebikes as "mountain bikes"; i have zero problem with them for people who want to get out of cars to commute. if squeeb wants to use one to get to work faster, and especially on hot/cold/rainy days, go at it.

As much as I absolutely love to dunk on @Toshi (with love!) and e-bikes in general, I am ever reluctantly and slowly coming around to the idea that there is a place for e-bikes. That place is definitely on the greenway and downtown bike paths exclusively, but there is a place. At least so far, the city and El Paso county in general have been pretty tough about keeping e-bikes off of single track, which in my opinion is the correct course of action. Without getting too much into local politics, TOPS has been pretty open about trying to get this changed and is another nail in the coffin of an organization that on paper, I should be behind.

And a single speed, at that! :nerd:

@Pesqueeb has been riding his bike and doesn't seem to need help 'getting out there'.

Although some people do seem to be pushing an agenda to validate their personal decisions.

Have you considered intermittent fasting?

Some are actually useful and appropriate. They (as other bikes) should never be on sidewalks. Save for those with health issues, they should never be on our trails.

Colorado has allowed class 1 e-bikes (20 mph limit, pedal assist only) on state and county open space mountain bike trails since 2018 (2017 even?), and it's been fine +/- the usual new to the sport idiots.

My floatwheel isn't allowed anywhere so I just get a huge fucking attitude with anyone who has a problem with it. Multi use trails, single track, sidewalks whatever. It's skateboarding all over again.
