Mono Mini's?

Mono minis are the bomb-diggity.

I would say they would make a great brake for the rear on a super light race bike.

I would spring for a mono 4 up front... not quite enough juice in the minis.

I have heard from several people that the Mini doesn't offer enough raw power for serious DH use, at least as a front brake. Plus they're only available in 7" front and 6" rear if I recall correctly.

They're the bee's knees on a trail bike and fine for DH if you're Steve Peat and never use your brakes. If you're a mortal, I would spring for the 4's or the tryed and true hayes.

Unfortunately, I'm a mere mortal and must use my brakes from time to time. I have Mono Minis on my trail bike and wish I had a Mono 4 up front. Compared to my Hayes Mags, they just don't have the power-nice modulation though.

I have an 8in mono mini on the back of my dh9 works fine, I would rather have the mono4 but it won't fit, mono4 up front is good.

The mini will work ALRIGHT for the rear, as said above, if i remember correctly steve pete was running an M4/mini combo on the world cup circuit to save weight, and obviosly he is a ripper...if that means anything to you

i have a mags now, and the line broke, and they jsut dont feel right, right after they are bled....
Sounds like you just need to fix the brakes you have. Killing a line shouldn't mean you need to spend $300-$400 on a new brake system...

I ran them with the seven inch rotors for DH all season and if I wasn't sponsored by shimano this year I would ride them again :thumb: They have excellent modulation and I try to use my brakes to slow me down, not stop me. True there are more powerful brakes out there but the minis are awesome. Superior quality and customer service, Bill and Phil are great. They don't chinse in ANY part of the brake. Try some on someone elses bike before you shell out the cash though for sure- not everybody likes the same stuff. Good luck and have fun learning!!! :thumb:

I had a 6" mono mini in the rear, fine for trail riding but smoked it at Brain Head, just wasnt enough for me, but then again, I smoked a 180 (185) Mono M4 in the rear at Mammoth. Squealed like a freight train then too, so for me, if I use Hopes again, 200mm M4's front and rear! Maybe even a M6 in the front.

Steve Peat also only has 3 bolts holding the rotor on too. :nope:

He doesn't use the brakes though and has Andy wrenching the bike no stop so it's safe.

Man, all i need is my fork and wheels and i get to ride 'em. The machine work and detail put into these brakes is just amazing. I honestly can't stop looking at them...

I've been running the old mini's on my bullit, 8" front and 6" rear, and it's been working fine, mind you I wouldn't mind a bit of extra power, but it hasn't been a problem, I'd say it's all about how you like your brakes to feel and how much you use them!

how will these work for dh? i ifigure hayes are 2 piston, and arnt 1 piece caliper, so they might do good?
Just something that nobody's brought up, and is a common misconception, two piston vs. four piston vs. six piston doesn't necessarily imply a certain amount of braking power. Hayes have 2 pistons, and Hope M6s have 6 pistons, but the Hayes pistons are huge and the M6 pistons are small, and the net result is that the Hayes have more raw braking power.

I've never ridden Minis so I don't know about them, specifically.

Yes, so do the minis but they don't have eight inch rotors and have more modulation. I would say equal power when set up properly but more mod and less weight. If you could run eight inch rotors with them they would feel a lot more powerful.

I seriously doubt that the Minis have the same stopping power as the Hayes simply from a visual inspection of the piston size. The Hayes pistons are huge.

Do you have back to back riding time on the same size rotors to tell this? Or are you guessing? Just curious.
