Just got this email from Bike Mag and figured I would share.
"Bike Magazine Monster Park Returns!
Nowhere does the sport of mountain biking progress faster than at Bike Magazine
Monster Park. For the second year, the monstrous slopestyle contest will descend
on Snowshoe Mountain Resort in West Virginia, home to one of the countrys best
mountain bike parks, and bring 30 of the worlds most exciting riders with it.
This years event runs August 18-20.
Slopestyle contests have become one of the most popular categories of mountain
biking and major events are springing up across the globe. But Monster Park goes
a step further. Not only is the course designed by riders (Darren Berrecloth and
Ted Tempany have the honors this year), but this one-of-a-kind event is
rider-judged; meaning the very same competitors who will test their skills on
the course will judge their fellow riders.
In the past, this peer-judged format has led to dramatic and progressive riding
that thrills the thousands of fans lining the course, some coming from as far
away as Florida and California. For huge 360s, to 20-foot drops, to backflips,
to flipwhips, to huge 50-foot airs, Monster Park has become the venue for the
sports best riding. Last year saw Berrecloth stick a clean 360 off a 25-foot
ladder drop, massive inverted foot plants off the quarter pipe by Jaime Goldman,
and lofty Evil Knievel airs by Thomas Vanderham. Footage and photographs of the
event appear in Bike Magazine and on bikemag.com, as well as in countless
mountain bike magazines, websites and films, including last years hit DVD,
Unchained, from Freeride Entertainment.
This years list of athletes includes Berrecloth, Paul Basagoitia and Carlo
Dieckmann, who finished one-two-three, respectively, at the recent Adidas
Slopestyle contest in Austria as well as Goldman, Vanderham, Geoff Gulevich and
Cam McCaul, among others. From street rippers to big-mountain huckers, Monster
Parks field of athletes promises to be one of the most diverse groups ever
assembled. And to top it off, freeride pioneer Brett Tippie will serve as the
events announcer. Brilliant!
Check out the Bike Magazine Monster Park site for rider profiles, 2005 video
highlights, 2006 course construction updates, and everything you need.
Special thanks to Monster Parks sponsors: Red Bull, Ampd Mobile, Nike 6.0, Fox
Racing Shox, Kona, Lizard Skins, Viosport, Maxxis Tires, and Lyte N Go".
