hi all,

i got a new set of 02 monsters today. i know they need to break in and that, but i seem to have a problem with the rebound control. the forks came without a manual and i am not getting too much help from the online one on the zoke site. basically, the forks pops back sooo slow, the rebound must be adjusted to the maximum. however, whatever i do to the dial button on the right leg (the left one is compression, right?) it does not change. i have not done anything to the oil/air levels in the fork, but i figure i shouldn't have to either - not to get the rebound happening.

any suggestions? are there other controls i have not seen yet? i turn the big know at the top of the legs by hand, i have not used the screw bit at the top of it...i figured they are the same.

i know i am stupid. don't tell me that - help me out :)

thanks, oli (ps this will go on the DH board, too, sorry for x-postings)

Somewhere dark, cold & wet....
unless something has drastically changed on the '02 forks there are no adjusters on the bottom of the legs, there should just be a single bolt on each leg which is there to hold the damper in place and stop the forks coming apart

the rebound adjusters on Monsters are the wee screws on the top caps, wind clockwise for slower, anti-clockwise for faster

I dont think that 02 monster have an external compression control at all. I can tell that many brands of forks when bedding in have rebound that can be timed with a sundial except rockshox where the bushings are loose out of the box. I have just changed the bushings on my monsters and the rebound is very slow. Ride the forks for a while until they fell beded in. Then change the oil as the oil will be quite contaminated from the bushings wearing in. Make an adjustments in oil weight and height after being bead in

Both of the dials atop the fork are for rebound. Only in 2000 did they have compression adjustment, and it did not work overly well for them.

Adjust both rebound adjusters all the way out, rebound will speed up. Remember, the fork has to break in, extra friction will make it run pretty slow!

By the way, the big knobs adjust preload (how much the spring in each leg is pre-compressed). This is to fine tune sag. It will not prevent bottomout if you ever have a problem with that, and will not make the fork appreciably stiffer in spring rate.

The little screw knobs inside the big preload knobs are the damping adjusters. They are a separate adjustment.

Hope this helps.
