Is Marzocchi phasing out the Monster T?

I dont see alot of company's selling them in their catalogs anymore even though Marz. shows a 05' Monster T on the website.

Anybody know the story?

Didn't BP say that they didn't expect to sell many Monsters from 03 onwards, due to their increased beef? I can vaguely remember a statement like that. Or maybe it was about the Super Monster.

They just need to bring back the 02 Monster T with 170 or 200mm of travel.... The 03 and newer is just too heavy. A little heavier than most is OK but a lot heavier than most is just too much.

Aren't many of the Monster T riders (the big boys that is) now using 888s? Ehhh, oh well.. I still got my 99 so I'm content :D I'll second Kanter's idea though!

Yep, 02 monsters are the way to go, i love mine. So stiff and plush, and only 650 grams heavier then 888's which is nothing in the scheme of things.

Maz should ditch the stupid 03 monsters and bring back the original lowers with the new dampers with high and low speed compression like in the 888.

How does a 99 Monster differ from a 2002? I hope to try it out in the next week or so. It is a bit on the heavy side but I know they track like no other fork. I had a Shiver for a while are really did not like it that much. It was super plush but tracked terribly. I'm a clyde at 225lbs so I think the Monster will suit me well.

Unfortunately I've gotten slammed by the Flu and it does not look like I'll be riding this weekend. :dead:

I'm a big guy and never thought about a monster.

Now a Shiver.........mmmm I love my Shiver.

I agree, you make the Monster's too heavy and no one wants one. Plus with all the other dual crown forks there's almost no need. Atleast do away with the super monster :P

What about making a heavier duty 888???

Keep the 200mm travel but thicken the walls of the lowers. Maybe change the crowns to add a pinch bolt on each side for the stanctions? Might still end up being lighter than the original Monsters.

ive got 02 monsters, and when i go and ride something smaller, like a boxxer or 888 i just dont feel as sure in the fork...
i probably would get used to it,
but when your ploughing through a rock garden i love it!

Bummer about the flu, I just got over mine. As for the 99-2002 comparison, I beleive the big differance is the innards. The 2002's had much better dampening as, I think, they introduced the HSVC cartridge. I could be wrong though.

i've heard conflicting things over whether the damping cartridges changed between '02 and '01-before. they certainly did change with the new generation in '03-up.

so did '02 monsters have different cartridges from '01 and earlier monsters, or did marzocchi simply rename the (same) cartridge? as a happy '01 monster rider i am inclined to the second option ;)

Yup, what they called their "speed sensitive damping" cartridges back in '97 is now known as HSCV, and they introduced ssv as a lower-end system.

For those not in the know, here's the scoop (as far as I'm aware) regarding the Monster.

Since the complete overhaul with the '03 model, sales dropped sharply for the Monster T since it weighs about 13 pounds with the stem assembly out of the box. As you're all aware, there are now a handful of 8" forks out that weigh at under 9 pounds, the closest in '03 being the Shiver with about 7.5" at total bottom and 8.5 pounds out of the box. The forks didn't change at all for '04, just new stickers. This is the case with '05 as well. My own speculation leads me to believe that Marzocchi Italy sent MarzUSA new stickers for the '04s they had in stock, and that they're not even being produced anymore. There was talk going around for a while that the '04s had come down in price vs '03 because Marzocchi dropped the Shiver MX cartridges (not the same as the internals in the Shiver MTB fork, these are the same guts as in Marzocchi's motocross forks) in favor of HCSV or 888 internals. This is not the case, the '04s have the ShiverMX internals, consistent with the no-changes policy from '03. The same rumor was floating around bit for the '05 fork, but I'm pretty sure the '05s, should they be available anywhere, are just re-stickered '04s.

I would guess this will continue until Marzocchi USA runs out of forks. If I'm totally wrong, let me know, but this is the most accurate info (and conclusions) I've got at this point.

Check it out. I had a 01, a 02 and now an 03 and I love them all, the 03' tuned right is just as nice as my old 01 (Tri-Flow the seals)........My problem is I would like something beefy (Im 225 and ride hard) but not 12lbs, but I have not heard alot of great things about the 888 for big guys or any other fork fork for that matter.............I think you guys are on track with a tad bit beefy'r 888 lets say a 40mm 888 with 01' inners.........nice.

Something must be good about 40mm stachions or Fox wouldnt have em on their new DH fork.
