The town of Fairfax was originally uncomfortable with its notoriety in the world of mountain biking, but that was then, this is now. Perhaps it was all the money riding into town on two wheels. In any event, Fairfax has embraced its mountain bike heritage to the extent where a permanent recognition of its mountain bike roots is taking shape downtown on an otherwise nondescript concrete wall.

The artists are using ceramic tile in a mosaic depicting elements of the local legend. Funding is private by subscription, and contributors get their names embossed on ceramic chainrings. You can see another of their projects in San Anselmo, the "obelisk" in front of the fire station.

The main figure will be a large representation of a "clunker" rider, which is yet to be assembled. Here are a few shots of the work in progress.
