Very true; certainly most do. (Although I think most Americans are too apathetic to actually believe wholeheartedly in anything anyhow.) I'm just arguing that "Christianity" isn't a monolith, and you can't pull a passage from the Bible and say that Christianity-in-itself believes a or b.American church-going Christians don't believe in a very literal hell (underground, fire, Satan, the whole bit).
That it is ambiguous in the Bible, sure. That it is unclear in the minds of modern Christians and Christian leadership? Please.
Much like my views on Islam and most other religions...my problems are based with the people who make a practice of evil in any guise, not with "religion" in general.
