so anyway with the addition of the Venezuela and Lebanon to "the list"...of the axis of evil or whatever it is, a couple of guys here are now no longer allowed to be in our office area without an escort. They actually had to have their desks moved out to a different area of the building

Even though they are canadian citizens, working IN CANADA, they are second class citizens here. One guy was born in Lebanon, but moved here before he was 2 years old.

At what point does this start being blatant discrimination?

They don't even have to tell us why. It's a pain because we already spent money flying him here for a interview and have waited months to get approval. The format was that we we each allowed one question or comment (there were about 15 of us). This guy asked about the ITAR thing.

It was explained thusly:

The president likened it to a blind person applying for a job as a bus driver. Technically NOT hiring the blind person is discrimination, but there are minimum requirements for the position. And in our field/company, one of the minimum requirements is compliance with ITAR. The company is working VIGOROUSLY to have these individuals approved by the US dept of Justice ASAP so that they may return to the regular workforce. But until such time, tough bananas for you.
