congrats on living in a awesome city.

now they just have to replace the starbucks with Dunkin'
That, for some reason, seems impossible. There is not a Dunkin Donuts in California.

And with the recent failure of Krispy Kreme, I doubt there will be a rush to open a DD or Tim Horton's.

There are some ghetto donut places, but I don't trust the consistency to get one.

Tim Hortons...good...
Not anymore. They used to bake things fresh...they changed that about 5 years ago, I think. Now they suck. Their coffee is still crack though...it's not fantastic from a coffee snob standpoint, but they are doing something right with it.

I was never a fan of Krispy Kreme. There is still one in Daly City across the way from an In-N-Out. I had a donut there, eh.

This is exactly correct. The donuts are reheated frozen jobs now.

Their coffee is fantastic, but don't order the double double. Their idea of 1 unit of sugar is a tad...skewed.

I would gladly trade you the KK across the street for a pot house. That would be awesome.

<edit> What SF needs is a Voodoo Donuts satellite location, right next door to the pot houses.

Your true loyalist roots shine through.

That stuff sucks donkey balls as much as their food. Maybe a step above folgers but not much of one.
Like I said, it's not up to snuff for a coffee snob (and I am one.)

That's why I can't figure out why I like it.

Reminds me of an Edward Abbey quote, something like "Any town that has more churches than bars has a serious problem"

The reason there are no Dunkins is that most of those ghetto places are AWESOME

Spoken by someone who has never visited Dunkin Donuts.
I lived in Boston and I live in SF. Dunkin is a notch above Safeway, but doesn't compare to any of the local donut shops I've sampled in SF.

And their coffee is good the way a big mac is good. That chemically goodness that makes it easy to drink and makes you want more, but it doesn't actually taste like good coffee.

I've been to the one on Haight, near the ball park, and a few out in Pleasant Hill.

They all suck.

Try Happy Donuts - at least the one at 24th and Church that just went under was good... I'm assuming the other locations are consistent. I *think* this is probably the place you tried near the ballpark. Did the place you tried also do fried chicken? Seriously, is there a better 24hour combo than donuts and fried chicken?

Bob's on Polk is good too, but I've only ever eaten them when I was so drunk and hungry that I would've shared a dumpster sandwich with a crack whore, so YMMV

Universal Cafe - you've got to wade through the hipsters for weekend brunch to get to their donuts, but it's almost worth it. Almost.

Haven't tried Dynamo or Allstar.

Next time I get stoned, I will hit one of these places up.
