Good choice, I'm off there tommorow.

I think the lifts shut the end of the 2nd week of september. The weather should be great, not to hot. The track may be fairly worn with lots of braking bumps, particualrly as the reports so far are that they arent doing much in the way of track maintanance

what's the downside of being there during the world champs? you might not be able to ride the mt chery track (which is pretty damn), but there's other options, and you get to see the sick racing.

if they don't do any trail maintenance, you might get lost in the braking bumps on the lower section of avalanche (pleney lift from morzine); even just 2 weeks into the season they were getting unmanageable.

what you'll find IIRC is that at the very start and very end of the season only the most central lifts (those in Morzine and Les Gets) are open, and the lifts in all of the surrounding valleys will be shut. In which case you're definately missing out.

Last year I went out for the last week in the season and the place was complete dead all the bars and shops in the town were shut and we were the only people saying in the hotel. But there was still plenty of good ridding to be done and had a great week out there. There was only one day that it rained the rest of the week was fine.
The only big problem was that only the two lifts in Les Gets and the main one in Morzine were open so there were only 3 main tracks to ride apart from the smaller ones tat go off from the main tracks and they sometimes closed for a hour for lunch.
There was still plenty of riding and the braking bumps were huge at the end of the season
