definitely bring spares of what you might need. if you are driving, that's much easier. if not, at least bring a spare mech, bb, brake fluid/bleed kit, brake pads, and maybe a seatpost or saddle. i found that tires were pretty fairly priced over there, but other things were pricey.

have fun!

it refers to ppl like me who had to go for 10days without a properly functioning brake! the hoses have a habit of melting at the caliper end leading to a leak at the connector (i started with that one), my back brake also decided it would be funny if the seal in one of the pistons gave up the ghost................ i suppose the black disc i had by the time i came home looked pretty cool!

Anyway, when you get you lift pass try n get a "magic" pass (or whatever its called). this just means you can keep the pass in your pocket/bag/whatever and just have to kinda rub yourself up beside a screen thing to get through the turnstiles and onto the lifts. just saves a bit of hassle, especially if things are mingin'!

narlus is right about most stuff there, not sure if i'd bother with a spare saddle or post (i haven't needed one in 6 visits). Shimano is definitely expensive........Maxxis, however, is nicely priced. What i would take would be some spare spokes though............the list is kinda infinite though, cause really an entire spare bike would be best.

Also make sure you visit the main run at Les Croset. it doesn't seem the best on the first couple of runs but when you session it and get into the flow of things (and stop using your brakes, which will knacker your arms) its one of the best courses i've ridden!

If i think of anything else i'll let you know

My M4's worked brilliantly out there. I tried the ebc reds for the first time and they make a significant difference in power and also stopped the squeeling.

Where are you staying?

Its a gamble on how much spares you will need. All I needed was a new chain, my mate needed lots of bits by the end of the holiday.

last time i had E4's front n rear. admittedly it was the first time i'd had problems with brakes out there......... strangely it was also the first time i'd heard ppl being warned about problems with them, work that one out

i believe that high roller 50a's were about 32 Euros each, a lot more places can match that outside france so it might not be such a good deal anymore

anyway, have fun on the slopes and in the pubs (which incidently seem priced like the Shimano stuff)!! :)

yeah I second that on the pub prices. Get tanked up on the stubbies from the supermarket before going out and paying for £3 a pint. Although the Irisg Pub in Les Gets does a fantastic pint brewed on the premises. The food is fantastic out there too (obviously) so eat out every night if you can afford to.

If you need a mechanic arguably the most reliable/cheapest is to go to Le boomerang in Les Gets. They have a ride-on mechanic based there and are a Hope distributor so they do Hope pads/spares at normal prices.

I dont know if you have been before but track wise Le Pleney and Les Get 1/2 are super fast. and there's plenty of technical tracks out there with the Anne Caroline Chausson track in Chatel to keep you wheelchair bound if that is your cup of tea.

awesome lumpy gravy... good info for sure... i haven t been there before and i m pumped to hit some fast stuff after the super tech courses (bad wildbad / todtnau) here in germany... i work on all my bikes myself (infact i wrench on bikes as my job ) but it s useful to know that 'le boomerang' has hope spares... i m takin my old set of dh04/E4's as a back up to the m6's... i was just checkin out spares for the m6's tonight and was pretty shocked to see that a rotor retails for $95 !!!!

thanks again, i ll post some piccies when i get back

Oh, and I bet the base exchange carries your favorites, too...

Tell me, though, are you more of a Rolling Rock man, or a Coor's Lite sort of 'guy?'

neither... actually you d be surprised, they have a pretty healthy selection of german brew... kostritzer is my fave at the moment... black lager...

it s the people that walk outta there with a case of bud / miller / coors that make me wanna shout:

'HEY CLOWN, YOU ARE IN GERMANY, THE HOME OF AWESOME BEER... WHY DO YOU DRINK THAT STINK WATER... GET A CLUE'

anyway, nevermind my insane ramblings... i need more morzine info !!

My buddy from El Paso (another Marine, natch) will only drink Miller Lite...everything else is 'froo-froo' beer according to him. Pretty funny that real beer is considered to effette to drink by a lot of light beer drinkers.

The worst part is that he'll drink Amstel Light if he wants to feel sophisticated.

However, my tolerance is about two pints, or maybe a 2 .5Ls for Weisbier, just cuz I like it, these days. I guess I shouldn't talk about girly men.

definitely hit up the les crosets course too, that was a lot of fun and well-maintained. if the morzine track had huge braking bumps 2 weeks into the season, they must be small canyons by now.
