For those driving 1950s vehicles: Contemporary systems don't tend to have a separate radio/stereo. That is all.
There will still be a physical power wire going to the head unit. Perhaps on a circuit with served by an isolated fuse. Things haven't escalated to the point where it is all one black box.

Now killing the head unit may initiate an idiot light as their will be a loss of communication to the main ECU.
