if you've got time, check out the trail that runs down the ridge south of Mt 7...bit of a hike a bike to get to, but probably one of the most sustained steep descents I've ever ridden.
That must be sustained if if rates that high from you. Not sure how many days I will do there, it's poor timing for extended road trip being a week before the kids get out of school.

Longer than Dead Dog? Sheeesh. I was halfway down Dead Dog and praying for a catch berm or flat section just to regroup. I forget what the other steep chute on Psychosis is called but it was even more hectic but seems a bit safer because it doesn't have the exposure that the top chute has.

yeah, looks like it's actually public on TF now but listed as "Cedar House", starts at 2300m and is about 400m higher than Dead Dog, ~1400m Descent. I mean, dead dog is still legit, and this trail isn't that steep, but the sections of steepness go for minutes. We probably rode it a day earlier than we should've for wetness, it was somewhat greasy still so the upper sections were super hard, and the exposure on the ridge was pretty serious, I don't usually get nervous with that, but I was gripped in a few places!

How'd you get to it? From the mt 7 shuttle road near the top?

New course record set on Psychosis yesterday...by an Enduro bike. Jonathan Helly set down an 11:06.

He probably could have put down a better time if he was seeded at the end instead of mid pack (he took over someone else's reg and didn't ask to be re-seeded). He had to pass about six people on track, said several of them were really hairy passes.

The official course record from 2008 was Kovarik at 12:35.

and Joe Breeden had a 11:37 at Covidworx in 2021
For the Covidworx years they ran the finish coral different. Would only make fraction of a second difference. There was talk on the weekend that the course was also taped different for it but I just watched Breeder's helmet cam and it was the same as what we races on the weekend.

Helly was my minute man starting one minute behind me. I had two race goals, not get passed by Helly in Dead Dog and hit the road gap, checked both those off. Helly caught me just before the run into the climb. Kid went past like a freight train, can't image having him blow past you in one of the steep chutes. Talked to him before the aprés and he said his race game plan was to ZOLO Dead Dog and make up time there as everyone kept saying "the race starts after Dead Dog".

nice work, brian! it's a wild course for sure...I've only ridden it shuttling with the boys on an east kootenay road trip, can't imagine what it would be like trying to pin it top to bottom!

On this note, does anyone know if there is any shuttle service operating anymore in Golden?

I mentioned a trip to Kicking Horse to the girlfriend the other day and she said "maybe". Flights aren't too expensive....so maybe I can swing it?

No shuttle service.

There is a climbing trail all the way to the top.

Round trip from the lake is 21.4 km and 1416m of climbing. I climbed up for my pre race lap on the Friday, the climb trail is pretty good, upper 2/3 has perfect grade to it.

Thats balls, 1416m of climbing for me would wipe me out. Coming from flat land and all.

Still up in the air about trying to do a trip. Airplane tickets are all over the place. I could get return flight for $403 and thats with paying for a checked bag and bike bag.

But then other flights have already gone up $50 each way since looking last night.

MAN

I could probably make it happen, but is it the smart thing to do? :busted:

Pack the bike in a hockey bag and keep it under 50lbs. That is your checked bag. Squeeze riding gear into carry on. Save a few bucks.

The shuttle road up is good, no need for a burly truck. Get your girlfriend to shuttle you in the rental car.

Plus Kicking Horse is across the road for a lift access day. Good times. Watch out for the giant Yogi bears though...

Kicking Horse was great last summer.

Cheap tickets, huge descents and zero lines.

Having a huge grizzly in a cage on in the middle of the hill, was weird though. Reminded me of Jurassic Park and we all know how that turned out. :D

We were going to shuttle Mt 7, but my buddy just had to snap his achilles on Stick rock or whatever the trail is under the gondola.
