i was watching a bike video the other day and relized that aaron chase had a free-coaster of some sort on his bike. i dident understand it because i thought that was somthing only bmx bikes had. and what else is he had a shifter and gears along with it. i have no clue how it works and would like to try and get whatever he had. i talked to a couple friends and they told me they heard it was some type pvc slide that went over the caseste that was moved over when needed. im still confused. any one have any light to shine on this subject. thanks

what he has is called a nuetural gear cass. what this menas is that some of the gear are missing (usally inplace of small gears) and is filled in with a alum. spacer. i have seen it done and i works well... most of the time.

I didn't realize that a fancy word had been created for it already.

If you try it, check your chainline to make sure that the chain won't be dragged into the remaining cogs when you start to role backwards.
