It is the absolute biggest ecological tragedy of our day. (I guess maybe taking down the rainforests and building dams are right up there too)
Visually, yes, it's disturbing and the impacts on streams and wildlife and people are huge...people just don't realize it.

You know what they do with all the material they bulldoze of the top of the mountains? The only thing you can do with it... fill up valleys.

Oh, but according to the coal companies...

Once you knock down a mountain... it is gone. Forever.

With all this news recently of coal miners dying, oil spills destroying ecosystems (and the workers there dying too) it has made me realize that I have yet to hear of a solar panel or wind turbine killing anyone.

Wind turbines kill stupid birds and bats. I'm a bit of a tree hugger but it pisses me off when wacko ****s try to block things like wind farms for that reason. Everything we do is going to have an environmental impact but blocking all progress is so much worse than settling for better alternatives.

Free healthcare for birds in Greece:

On 28th of October 2009 we received a two-year old griffon vulture from the district of Lenta of Asterousia Mountains of Crete. The bird got injured during its flight across the windmill park. You can watch the video taken by the people who were present in the accident, and then collected the bird and sent it to our premises.

The bird has one of its wings broken and limps. We buckle to cure its injuries as soon as possible, in order to rehabilitate it, but it is too early to know the outcome.

Windmill parks are a renewable form of production of electric energy. They produce cheap electric energy, reducing the pollution of the environment and the greenhouse effect. However, before their installation and operation, there should be proper research and consideration of the living units (e.g. birds), residing or passing through the area. This is a very important parameter for the preservation of the biodiversity, which is unfortunately forgotten in most of the cases in our country.

Ravens like to taunt large predators for fun but they've evolved to be good at that.
