With Saw 2 in theaters, I figured it was about time I saw the first one. Watched it last night on the big screen, in the basement, in the dark. Very cool movie... one of those movies that, at the end, you just kind of say, "um, woah *long silent pause* Who the hell thinks that **** up?"

That's why I haven't watched them, sounds too much like The Ring. Several people have recommended them though, guess I'll put them in my queue.

I liked The Ring. I thought it was pretty damn scary. Didn't see the second one though, since I heard it sucked.

I want to see Saw but haven't been watching many movies lately... Is the second one as good as the first? Worth watching both?

I liked it... but I did not like the ring.

Remember Seven (with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman)? It's kinda like that... kinda sick and dimented, but not really greusome or scary. Seven had a slightly better storyline, but Saw is more dimented. There were parts where I thought I knew what was going to happen, but was wrong, so I liked the fact that it wasn't predictable.

Saw is very well put together, and pretty well thought out. There are a couple of wholes in the story line, but it's kinda like porn... don't watch it if you want a movie with acadamy-award calibur story line or acting. The plot and acting is good enough to not take away from the other aspects of the movie.

IMO, definitely worth the $4 to rent.

I saw the first Saw and I thought the story was pretty good and got a kick out of the twisted contraptions/situations (similar to Seven as mentioned before) the people are put in...my only issue was that the acting sucked, though not enough for me to not recommend the film especially if you like twisted stuff.

yea... I thought Adam was ok... but Larry should have stopped after The Princess Bride.

Like you said... crappy acting, but not so bad that it took away from the rest of the movie.

I agree......"typical horror" is an art that was lost years ago. F*ck with you movies are all the rage. The horror genre has been so laden with special F/X and CGI that it ceases to scare you when the evening news and the Internet is so much more horrific in nature. I mean, what does it tell you when the last good horror film premiered in the late eighties?

I dunno, when I saw that Mariah Carey made a movie, I was pretty terrified...

I "saw" the first one and liked it, the acting is pretty horrible but it's a fun ride, one of those movies where you think you know what's going on but there is always a twist or two. Not really scary in the sense of making you jump out of your seat, more creepy and unsettling. Haven't seen II yet, will wait for the DVD.

If you really want a f with your head movie you should see Old Boy.... most shocking/odd whoa factor ending I've seen.
Oldboy is a fantastic movie. The american version is going to be terrible, there's no way they're gonna go as far as the Korean original. Justin Lin from Better Luck Tomorrow is directing it There were early early rumors of Nic Cage being in it. I really hope those rumors aren't true.

I hated Saw. The premise of the movie was so good though. The villain was very original, but handled so poorly. Gore wise it was ok, I mean if that's the only reason to watch the movie. I thought it could have gone further, especially with the reverse bear trap, I wanted to see that thing in action on someone. The acting was awful. It only took 2 weeks to film (and looked that way), but that's no excuse for the terrible performances.

Saw 2 was an improvement. Still though, I think they could have done a lot more with the premise and with the character Jigsaw. It's unfortunate that the whole idea was kind of wasted on these two attempts. Catch a matinee or rent them.
