I'm currently using NoScript instead of adblock. It disables javascript on all sites except those you allow. Almost all ads require javascript to display so when disabled you don't see any.
The number of sites I need to turn javascript on to use is much small than the number of sites I needed to adblock. Since it's done by domain you don't see ads after enabling javascript either as most sites with ads the ad displaying javascript comes from a different domain.
