im almost scared to ask....but recently when i open excel, the page is laid out different and im not sure what ive done.

the rows are still the same, but the columns are labeled at the top with numbers, rather than letters

when i click on individual cells, i get designators such as R1C5, as in row 1, column 5

how do i get this back to the "normal" format of A5....and more importantly, what caused it to change in the first place

Click Tools then Options. Under the "General" tab, uncheck the "R1C1 Reference Style" checkbox.
