Have you watched the XC coverage?
Warner is commentating on that too now so a busy man, and TBF he's doing an excellent job.. he even seems to have learned the names of most of the top XC riders .. "The Brazillian dude" for instance , XC will attract a different audience so gone is the swearing and shouting but although it's far far more subtle his humour/piss taking is still very much there.

Don't think Rob doesn't know how to play his own PR.. he's made a career out of being a (MTB) celebrity far longer than he ever did as a rider..

I thought the coverage was awesome. RB seems to be a little more "professional" about how it is covered. Not sure that is what "we" are looking for, and "we" are the ones watching. I really enjoyed the MSA coverage a lot more then Ft Bill. Both missed the majority of the course but MSA has a better lower section.

The only thing I would like to see is more of the current top 5 or top 10. You know who is in the hot seat, but not having any idea what the current top 5 is bothers me. Especially when they start the coverage of the men with about 30 riders left. It would be easy for them to list the current top 5 at that point in the race.

Are you asking about connecting it to a TV via connector? I have the RB app on my iPhone and it works superbly either on the phone or via AirPlay. With AirPlay I have to turn off the auto-lock.

However with the iPhone AV cable connected to the TV, I only get sound no image.

Oh wait, rereading your question, the Redbull app is bandwidth intensive. I would say that your 3G feed isn't enough to stream live. Just my opinion.

Couple things...
Rob is probably more in touch with the riders than he ever has been. They often do course rides but they never make the show, or his dirty business, course rides have amazingly low views. As for pit interviews, I personally think we are suffering from too much content, do we really need so many people doing 'web edits bro'? For every guy (like me) who loved the drinking, screaming shiftiest broadcast, there are 50 viewers that turned it off and would not watch. I know more people that are back on board from the cleaner, leaner red bull broadcast, than the back in the day **** storm...Rob, Lopes and I talked about last night at dinner, its hard to please everyone, but it seems people are enjoying the new, less chaotic shows...and the live views show this.

I was thinking the same thing. Rob just seems to be a bit out of touch. He seems quite a bit less involved than he used to be. The lack of his course walks and rides, no or litle wondering pit interviews. It is like either RB has his hands or should I say mouth tied. Sometimes I get the feeling he just doesn't want to be there. I am sure the lack of Booze may have somthing to do with it. Red Bull needs to let him loose and just be Rob.

while I understand some people might miss the "old Rob" with his juvenile approach to commentating, yesterday as I pulled up the re-broadcast of the race, I was thinking to myself that Rob has really grown into the job of commentator. I found his excitement and enthusiasm still there; there's just a little less "sh!ts - t!ts - farts" jokes. He sounds knowledgeable, articulate and enthusiastic - a perfect combo for a commentator.

I also really appreciated that Red Bull didn't put the result of the race in the title of the replay link.

As for the race itself... wow. Neko's crash was crazy, scary crazy. The women's races are getting so competitive now, it's awesome. Gwin's race craft is spectacular. I like Greg's attitude: keep doing what I'm doing, eventually my work will pay off. It's great to watch Sam return to his form. I was disappointed for Stevie Smith - his hard work will pay off some day too.

have to agree: all the guy does is catch the hard breaks. Fantastic rider, definite top10/podium material, but all he does is grab the world champ and series champ titles for being broken: any year, every year, without fail. Seriously, someone needs to find that voodoo doll and burn it.

Semenuks show, 'life behind bars', has higher ratings than any of their current programming (Snow, Pastrana, Moto, etc...)

Good to hear but a little craziness from Rob is missed but its not something that is worth complaining about. I love insights like what Lopes brought to show yesterday. Have to say of course that Fabian is the king of that but for his first time I think Lopes did a good job.

Agree with Stick that there is plenty of coverage of the pre race going on to make me happy but with a busy job and two kids I also have less time than the full time iRippers

Kind of hard to say that though because it's most likely due to the fact that live broadcasts themselves are just getting more popular (and reliable......you know you're not going to completely blow a sunday morning anymore with a sketchy stream anymore like the 'early years').

Think about the popularity of that hart run excerpt from last year's worlds. It wasn't the riding that was making that clip pop up everywhere. It was warner's 'most like the old warner without the cursing' screaming.

Either way....Rob is certainly more 'presentable' to sponsor dollars so no one can whine about the solid future that indicates. Even though I miss the piss bucket days.

It is kinda ironic they are the country producing the most offensive programming. To me the people who are offended just feel the need to do so. Artificial outrage to feel important.

Though I doubt Warner going raw really had anything to do with lower numbers, especially the core demographic for extreme sports broadcast.

Hate to break it to you but everything considered apart from the stable broadcast the freecaster coverage was simply the better package: more entertaining, authentic, quantity, better slow-mo music etc.

As far as I know the production company is the same so I doubt Red Bull has influence on a camera positions but I hoped that they would put their money not just in big streaming servers. The image films they produce tend to be dull and boring and that's what seems to happen to warner intentionally or unintentionally. He's just not the same, Gwin gwinning all the time, no 4X, no CG - and the freecaster broadcast wasn't even that bad in terms of stability for me.

I liked that one shot they got of the racers from behind in the fast section under the lift. The camera looked like it might have been stationary. Really showed the blazing speed.......they only used it a few times in the broadcast though.

Why don't they use more strategically placed stationary camera to increase the coverage.....?.....would be a bit cheaper and i think it shows more of the speed....camera moving with the rider dillutes the speed.....

I don't know.. the section where Neko went down, I think they had a moving camera around the step down and it looked pretty awesome! I think it was there but if not somewhere along the track there was a cam that appeared to be on a zip line or how ever it was moving and I thought it showed a great perspective. But I agree, more cameras!

Cunny as well as Warner have done the lead xc commentating but the constant has been Frischy. He gives out incredible information. He is on the leading edge of what is going on in that sport. He relays tire strategy, tires tech, training....all that stuff. Sometimes i think he's letting some secrets out.... Last race he talked about how Schurters dad had been the Swiss DH coach...

Warner generally just calls the race and talks about how he loves riding his 29r clipped in......

I dunno, admittedly I live where the internet comes via carrier pidgeon, but the only race I could watch live last year was the worlds. Even then it was patchy, but like all of us who are totally nuts about racing I would watch anyway and just swear as the coverage would freeze half way through a run. I'm putting my hand up for the "I wont miss a race now that the stream is better" group. Warner, pissed or sober doesn't bother me but I'd listen to Fabian Barel even without the racing! Maybe its just that the whole package is so much shorter they dont need to bring in the guest commentaters, but I'd love to hear Martin Whitely, or any racer who qualified poorly, or CG if he comes back get a few minutes on the mike. I'm guessing Herbold wont get back in the booth though....

He knows his tech alright but what he does relay is often delivered in such an incredibly boring flat style* it may have put me to sleep without Warners subtle humour throughout.. for me they worked very well together.
