Breaking news :monkey: : MTV are lame

http://dailytelegraph.news.com.au/story.jsp?sectionid=1274&storyid=3196518

ROCK band Nine Inch Nails cancelled plans to appear on next week's MTV Movie Awards after the network questioned the band's plans to perform in front of an image of President George W Bush, the band said today.

The band was slated to perform The Hand That Feeds, the first single from its latest album.

A Los Angeles Times review called the song "a warning against blind acceptance of authority, including that of a president leading his nation to war".

"We were set to perform The Hand That Feeds with an unmolested, straightforward image of George W Bush as the backdrop. Apparently, the image of our president is as offensive to MTV as it is to me," Nine Inch Nails' leader Trent Reznor said in a statement posted on the band's website.

MTV said in a statement: "While we respect Nine Inch Nails' point of view, we were uncomfortable with their performance being built around a partisan political statement. When we discussed our discomfort with the band, their choice was to unfortunately pull out of the Movie Awards."

MTV is owned by Viacom Inc, the corporate parent of American broadcast network CBS.

I remember in the ancient days when Bush the First went to Kuwait to defeat the Republican Guard. MTV started playing a video "Give Peace A Chance", with all the hot video stars at the time.

About a month later, after we had swept the Iraqis out of Kuwait, the war received tremendous support. I noticed MTV dropped their video out of their line-up.

You would not expect the WB or UPN to take a political stance. MTV likes to "educate" but they never back it up.

Good music has, since the begining of time, carried political and social messages. Name a good band who have not been influenced by politics or social trends. For a TV station calling itself Music Television to reject certain music because of it's political message is ****ing ghey. I hope they crumble like the tower of **** they are.

They are the trough that all the idiots eat their sh*t out of. And there are ALOT of idiots. They'll go away when the public grows some stones and has some taste.

ie: They're not going anywhere.

Since when did all political statements become partisan? Making fun of the President is as American as Apple Pie and PBR. Nothing to do with what Party he's affiliated with. In fact ... didn't the Dimocrates march lock step with the Repugnicons to War?? Nothing partisan about it. Buttheads.

Easy tiger, sorry if I insulted your favourite 'band'. NIN do suck IMO but that's not really the point ~ I wasn't 'inquiring' about good music. Read it again.

Isn't MTV a business....and they must conduct themselves as such. If they don't want to rock the boat why the F should they?!?!

Let the musicians make their music and statements and let the fans buy and play it. MTV has no reason to play politics. If they do they can do so as they seem fit.

What really is the problem?

MTV? You gotta be kidding me. every time I happen to be channel surfing there is a rap video playing with some monkey dancing with a bunch of prostitutes. Seems like there is as much rap on MTV as there is on BET. I prefer animal channel if I want to watch chimps. Plus the agonizingly painful shows that make no sense other than "OMG this chick's searching my crib"...

Did you mean that to seem really racist?

Its not racist, its an observation.

I quit watching MTV about 10 years ago when Rap became the dominant music played on there. I was under the impression that MTV stood for MUSIC television. Music encompasses many more styles of music than rap. Dont get me wrong. I still listen to Dre and Snoop, but I am for the most part a metal head. So if you get tired of MTV, switch to Fuse. Its better anyway. Besides, it has Mistress Juliya. What more do you need?

Well it did come off "kinda racist" Maybe a little better word shoice would have gotten your point across without having the readers attention focused on a key word here and there.

If MTV was "music television" they would play country music, blue grass, classical, etc. They play what they can get the most money for.....
