Mud and dust for the Transition Race program

Transition Racing competed in two events on two continents this weekend. Bryn Atkinson attended the World Cup # 4 in Champery Switzerland, while Jill Kintner and Lars Sternberg held it down on US soil at the the NWCup finals in Port Angeles, Wa.

The Champery World Cup has been regarded as one of the most difficult courses to date on the WC circuit. Add to that the precipitation that the event saw over the weekend and you have yourself one wild weekend. The last event held in Champery was in 2007 and since then the course builders have done a great job improving some of the more exposed areas, and making the course as safe as possible. When all was said and done there were many more injuries and surprising results due to the gamble that was completing a race run.

In qualifiying Bryn stayed consistent and made it down in a respectable 24th place. The conditions during seeding were horrendous, and just making it down was an accomplishment as told by the results sheet. On Sat during finals the weather was much better, but the course was still tricky. Without precipitation, the mud got thicker and required much more work stay on track. Bryn suffered a few minor mistakes, and connected with a few trees and finished a solid 20th for the weekend. He currently sit's in 19th place overall in the World Cup standings, and had this to say about the weekend "Conditions were tough, consistent rain and a track that is not up for World cup numbers, resulted in an all out, sloppy battle, basically survival. No excuses here though.. Thanks to ol' Marshy, my bike was more than great the whole weekend, I just slammed some trees in my final run, and got stuck in the mud a few times, finishing 20th."

Bryn and Mechanic Jason Marsh now head to Val Di Sole, Italy for the World Cup round #5.

Amid the nasty wet conditions in Euroland, Sternberg and Kintner remained on home turf to finish out the NWCup series. The weather and conditions were about as polar opposite as you could get from Champerey. Mid 80deg weather and bone dry track conditions were the status quo for the weekend. This was the series final and titles were up for grabs as well. The course ran new middle and lower sections for the Pro fields. The new sections included some very high speed, and off camber technical zones that were made even more difficult with zero traction.

Jill made an early statement by seeding 15 seconds faster than the nearest opponent, and Lars 6 seconds up on 2nd. The team took shelter throught the day and prepared for the finals. Jill came down first with another descisive win, assuring her the overall lead of the series. Lars was the last man down and barely edged out Dunbar Cycles Dean Tennant who stepped up his finals time big time. This marked 2 wins in 2 races entered of the NWCup series for Sternberg, and moved him into 2nd place overall in the series.

Jill and Lars now head back to Colorado to attend Crankworx Colorado and the 4th PRO GRT in Winterpark Co.

Transition Racing is supported by FOX Racing Shox, Crankbrothers, Dakine, KORE, Maxxis, Shimano, THE, ODI, 5.10, e.13, Jetlites, Cadenceworks, Jagwire, Cane Creek, Kinetic, Feedback Sports, Contour HD, and Lezyne
