Mud proofing a bike

This last weekend I competed in one of the muddiest race I have seen. The stuff was clogging up the entire bike.

Now I have enough weight and strength to keep the bike moving (and pretty good wheel clearance with the 303), but other smaller riders were not so fortunate.

Now I'm kind of thinking that in mud like this, there is not a lot can be done.

However, does anyone know of any methods to keep mud from clogging wheels and drivechain?

Why don't you have a seat over there?

Yikes! You could try spraying "Pam" cooking oil on your bike. In theory the mud won't stick. I doubt it would last long in conditions like that though.

My angle of attack would be to stay home or road ride.

It was race 2 of the Coupe du Rhone Alpes race series. Everyone was in the same boat.

Mud riding can be huge fun. I love it and had no worries as I said earlier. My 303 doesn't clog up and I have the weight and strength to keep the bike moving. The smaller riders/different bike designs had the problems (the 12yo girl on the Socom and the mate on the Glory).

that's why we drink it here
I used to have a set of michelin hot s tires that shed mud like crazy. I know it's not a DH tire, but it came in 2.5".

My only idea for guarding your gears against mud like that would be to put them inside a hub.
