Islamic law considers dogs to be unclean but this is not derived from the Qur'an. Muhammad is said to have given an order to kill all the dogs in Medina because angel Gabriel does not enter a house in which there is a dog.

They have a great saying in Arab countries about the relationship of man and dog; "You don't choose the dog, the dog chooses you". Since dogs are viewed as wild animals there, the one they choose must be a good person.
