Uh, it wont work at my new house w/ DSL instead of Cable broadband like at my last place. I updated the IP on the ibook and macbook so I can get on line w/ a cable, but I cant get the airport of pick up the signal and turn green instead of blinking yellow.

Anyone got any ideas?

I've never touched an Apple Airport but if he can get online via an ethernet cable, PPPoE is on and working properly...

bs, when you say "get online with a cable", is this cable hooked up through the base station or directly to the DSL modem?

Directly to the dsl modem.

Edit: Sorry. It would seem to me that Id have to set up an ISP on the airport just like I did on the mac itself to get it to (recognize?) the signal. I just dont understand how that's done or even if that's to be done. I didnt have to do it before, I know that. It just worked with cable internet.

sounds like you need to re-run the Airport Setup Assistant... lives in Applications/Utilities like i posted above. in there it'll have an option to turn on PPPoE on the base station, which is what i think you need.

Okay, thanks I'll give that a shot. I will have to go offline of course to test it so if you're around in a bit, maybe I'll hit you up for more info if it doesnt work.

it's because he's a cheap bastard and likes to save money while getting the same (or better) performance.

The reason it worked before is because cable doesn't have a username/password authentication. It authenticates your cable modem device as a piece of hardware that's allowed to get online.

If you have trouble with your setup assistant, post up. I don't know exactly what the screens look like but I can probably stumble you through it :p

Toshi, I wouldn't hold your breath on my joining the Blind Followers of the Apple :D. The closest I might consider getting is one of those nice iPod Touch players, when they up the storage a bit...

i just bought a mac book... damn this thing is nice.

apple has their sh!t together on function and design.
Congrats!

Ive now had mine in for 4 seperate warranties and now the battery wont hold a charge so I have to stay plugged in at all times. No idea what's causing it but its sure to cost me. Yay apple.

At least it doesnt get eat up with spy ware though. I still like my macbook alot.

i figure it cant be more of a piece of sh!t than my 2 year old Toshiba that died on me.

also came with an external drive, mouse, a partioned hard drive that i can boot up using Windows Vista.

did you get a lot of spyware attacks using windows?

i've used MS since ~95 and have never had a virus or other malicious attack on my machine yet. either i'm lucky, know what i'm doing, or choose the right virus protection. not sure which (probaby not #2)

granted i've got an abnormally large music library, but it literally seizes my PC when i run it, and i've got 2GB of RAM.
That's like saying Hitler had a mild dislike for Jewish people. You're a pretty big outlier as far as library size goes, I think.

Have you tried winamp to compare?
