Yep, my front tire flatted IN my car this morning while driving into work...I have to throw my bike in the car due to theft issues at work, and while rounding a corner by my house the front tire let loose! The initial pop and following hiss scared the crap out of me...I initially thought it was something wrong with my "new" preowned car or the new Priestess CD I popped in for the 1st time...The tube has no patches but the presta valve has been screwy for some time now, though. This made it definitely one of my more memorable commutes, let me tell you.

And in a different yet related question: how many people have had problems with presta valves? I still find schraeder valves/tubes so much more reliable. Just finished drilling all my rims out for them, as a matter of fact.

I hate presta valves. 2 or 3 times I have snapped off the tip while pumping them up. God that's annoying. Plus you could loose an eye when that thing launches into the stratosphere.

one time, I had a case of soda in the back of my jeep..it was winter and on the way to work and a couple of them exploded. Thankfully I was at a stop light cause I truely thought I was being shot at, and ducked.

The back window of my car exploded on the way to school once. Sounded like a shotgun went off in the car and the window was literally blown to pieces - nothing bigger than a half inch square. Needless to say - it scared the **** out of me.

It made me jump initially! Adrenalin: better than coffee any day...also cleared my sinuses.

I constantly have problems with presta valves and it is mostly because of my monkey like ability to not finess anything well (I have stripped out a boat load of allen bolts in my day). While I have backed off on the monkey madness, I still prefer the reliability of schraeder - I just cannot fvck it up! In fact, I carry my drill (with 11/32 bit) around like the President of Pakistan carries a Glock.

I must of caught a rock in the sidewall the other day, and opened up a small tear in the tire. Riding yesterday a small portion of the tube escaped the tear, and proceeded to explosively decompress my tire.

Scared the crap outta the two old ladies walking their dogs, heck it scared the crap outta me.

I once blew a tube and new tire off a rim right in front of a customer's face, who was waiting at the time...Didn't even get a chance to yell, "FIRE IN THE HOLE!" The word "lawsuit" flashed before my eyes as I watched his hair fly back. Lucikly he was cool and put his sunglasses on for the next round, which didn't explode.

It's just pissed you didn't ride it in. Bikes don't like to be carried around in cars. :)
True, though I wouldn't look forward to riding slightly sub 40 lb. Rocky Mountain Pipeline 15 miles into work, then another 15 into the mountains, then ride it in the dirt (finally!)then all of it back home on the road in the dark post MTB ride. My mud tires roll SLLLLLOOOOOWWWW on the tarmac!

LOL!!!!

We had some soda in the garage to keep it cool one winter and it got REALLY cold outside (below zero). I was lying on the couch watching TV at about 10pm one night (no lights on or anything) and one exploded. I jumped and the cat jumped. I had no idea what was going on.
