My driveway/garage floor saga continues

So this guy puts in a driveway. Asks me to leave the garage doors open for some reason. Drives a steam roller (which he claims he doesn't have) in my garage. Anyhow, something was in my garage and cracked the sh*t out of my floor. Granted the floor is a POFS to begin with, but this guy did make it worse. I owe him 700 buck and he and I argued last night, the end result being him taking me to court. I asked him. You deny that you ruined my floor? Yes, he said, your floor was already runied. Now I know I'll lose in court, caus I'm a losers loser, but take a look at the before and after pics and see if I stand a chance. This guy denies anything was in my garage and there are witnesses saying a steam roller was in my garage. He says, as I said he doesn't own a steam roller. Well then, WTF did he use to flatten the driveway, a shovel? He had to use something right?

He proabaly doesn't have a 'steam' roller, but he does have some other kind of roller.

Just look at how the excess asphault is mashed along the edge of the garage and the blacktop...

It's hard to tell what I'm supposed to be looking at in some of those "after" pics. How old is the floor that he cracked?

Yeah, he says he'll prove that whatever he used is lighter than my cars. Like I said, my floor was sh*t before he got there, but he made a mess out of it, make it worse and denies it. He couldn't even go the extra mile to f'n sweep out the tar out of my garage. I know it's just a garage, what pisses me off is the principle that NOBODY finshes anything. NOBODY. If I was a carpenter or plumber, if I did work at someones house, I'd make damn sure, whether the job is finished, or I'm coming back the next day, that it looks like I was never there. That's professionalism. Nobody has pride in their work. I hate my job, but if sh*t is messed up? I don't leave till it's right. End of discussion.

What is a steam roller, somethin you use to get wrinkles out of clothes? :thumb:

Its an asphalt roller.

That sucks man.

Tell the guy that even if it does weigh less than your car, your car doesnt have 4 feet wide metal wheels that crush concrete.

Have you paid him yet?

It doesn't matter if it is lighter than your car. It is all about pounds per square inch.

Let him take you to court.

Courts nearly ALWAYS side with the poor defenseless home owner instead of the crooked contractor.

You have a 90% chance of winning there.

Take plenty of pictures and get everything documented.

You said it, preach on.
The problem with the current society is that no one wants to take responsibilty for anything. It is always someone elses fault, and they love to sue. We have become a sue happy society.
Effing sucks!
Hope you win Knuck!

Bad part is, if the guy loses, he'll make up the difference on some other Joe out there. I don't even want to think about how much it cost him in materials etc., probably still making a profit without you paying him the extra $700.00.

Sick, just sick.

Its a catch 22, it looks like it was damaged by them, but if you don't pay them they can put a lein on your house. Take them to small claims court.

But a lein doesn't mean squat until it comes time to sell...

By that time who knows...

I know, but the way it looks he'll probably move soon.

Na, I'd like to move, caus of all the sheit, but in order to do something right, you have to do it yourself. Luckily my bro-in-law works for Aggregate Concrete (giant around here) and next spring I'm gonna do it.
1. Jackhammer it out (MYSELF)
2. level the floor with gravel
3. Vibrate the sheit out of the floor
4. Order a compaction test
5. Pour a floor (with bro-in-law)

THEN IT WILL BE FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFINISHED

IMAGINE SUCH A WORD, SUCH AS DONE, FINISHED, COMPLETE.
I could not operate like these guys. I don't know how they do it. I don't like people on my back. I don't like owing anybody money. I like peace and if I owned a business, I'd operate it in such a way that I'd have nobody bugging me, nobody unhappy (to a reasonable extent) or I wouldn't operate it. For me, it's all about being able to sleep at night. I don't know how these drunken, fat bastard, coke heads sleep at night
Wait, I think I just answered my question.

As usual thanks for all your emotional support monkies in these very trying times :D

Sometimes I look at this floor and get in such a rage. Then I come to my senses (for a very short period) and realize that it's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. It will get fixed, sooner or later.

I'll get some dirt on this kinda stuff from the street maintenance supervisor here...find out what kinda equipment they need to roll that sh@t out, and if it can f up your garage floor...if I recall correctly, the thing they use to flatten it out might be gas driven, not steam but it's a big ass piece of machinery that they truck out to the sites even if they are around the corner...and we've gotten TONS of complaints from people who live in courts who complain that they've driven in their driveways and cracked it...I'll get back to you later in a pm about it once they get back in the yard here...

I hear you on that...I had a contractor come and do Millgard windows at my house. The way I enter the house is through a sliding glass door in the back yard that was keyed. So when I ordered the new windows, I specify VERY CLEARLY...clearly enough that he wrote it on the f'n invoice that I wanted a KEYED ENTRY. So the doors arrive, and guess what...no keyed door. So he gets all bent outta shape AT ME. Tells me well it's 500 extra for that because the 3 panel slider no longer comes in a keyed style, you have to get the french door 4 panel slider...fine I say. So the bastard cops a major attitude with me cuz he didn't put in what I ordered. He ended up selling the unkeyed door to a neighbor I REFERRED to him to (the THIRD friggin job he got off of MY references) and then he didn't mail the referral checks his partner said he saw on his desk. Total friggin asshole and he actually did a really nice job, and when people ask me who did it I tell them NOT to go to this guy under any circumstances. F'er.

well, if the cracks are all small, you could fill them with caulk and then use some of the epoxy floor paint down. the jeep would look showroom good on it! not to mention the bikes as well!

And then you could revel in the fact that just one more person screwed you and you took the initiative to fix their mistake. ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY is our motto here in this country. I agree that this place is a good joint to realize that there are some decent peeps. Even the smart ass out in San Jose. I try to even think that I like every person on BiKeMoJo, but there tend to be some that prefer others solve their problems. Whatever.
