Shut up and Ride
there was one guy in the race that kinda irritated me, bout 3/4 way thru 3rd and final lap, I was on this section that was a very rough fire road, at one of the very few flat sections, and a guy catches up and with a not so friendly tone says "you need to get out of my way, I'm in the lead and you're going to slow me down"

uh, hello dude, say "right" or say "left" and I will gladly move over but until you do I have no idea which side you want to pass on!!!

but whatever, I let him go by.....but we are now on the longish DH section, and its a little to hairy to pass so I stay behind him, then a bit of singletrack, still right behind him, then out to a long doubletrack climb where I catch him & say "left" and pass his irritating arse!!! :D

Great race Doug!!! :thumb:
Well done, Doug!!! :monkey: Sounds like it was a tough course.

Hey Mark, at least you tried, man. That's more than some of us can say for ourselves. Bummer about the mechanicals. Not much you can do to prevent your derailleur from splitting like that.
That's just it Babs - I never really got a chance to try. That's what is frustrating me.

I'm not sure it wouldn't have been more fun to go explore some trails with friends though Laura - I never got a chance to truly find out.

I do know that I am out $32 for riding 500 yards. And right now I could use thos fugging $32 back!:(

Splat the course was 4 miles and this was just a section of it.

Doug did awesome considering what he had to deal with and he should be really proud.

It must have sucked monkey balls to have to trod through the mud with just a sock on and then have to figure out how to get his friggin foot back into his shoe over and over again, while still trying to go as fast as he could.

Mad Props to Douglas.

Don't let it get ya down man.

About 8 years ago, there was this race that I spent a ton of time training my ass off for. I found a training loop that took about the same amount of time and effort as the race, and rode it like 4 times a week. Race day came and I was psyched. I got to the start line early so I could start near the front. I took off like crazy and stayed with the front group.

The race started with like a 3 mile climb, and I kept the leaders in sight the whole way. At the top of the climb I started licking my chops thinking how I was gonna own them all on the downhill section. Then I noticed I had a flat. I hadn't brought any tubes, patches, anything. I was going for light weight and took a chance and lost. I rode the 4 miles of downhill on a flat, and about half the field passed me.

I was super pissed and depressed, it really sucked. But looking back, it wasn't that bad. There will be lots of races, lots of great times, and yes, a few mechanicals, wrecks, etc. But overall it's great times :)

I had tubes and pumps and tire levers and all that crap - I didn't have an extra derailleur however. :(

I don't know....I should do another race to see what it is like. It seemed like people had fun, but it seemed to me that it was equally grueling on people.

I just feel cheated. And this happening on top of all the other crap happening to me right now just put me over the edge I think.

Exactly ! First Dalton is not part of the root 66 series so I can wear it there
and who says I'm going to surender it  (And yes I get to keep it)

Mark you and Babs will still need a warm up race.

Next one in root 66 series

and I will need More points!

That is the date of the MS bike ride and the MS bike ride is way more important than a warm up race or Dalton even.

I am *thinking* about racing June 13. It's the same course you and Doug ran yesterday, only it's done backwards.

Heck why don't we ride the Kingdom Trails??
I will be in Maryland (again) that week and will probably not feeling like driving 7 hours after being out of town all week. But if you guys want to ride Kingdom Trails that weekend, don't let ME stop you (seriously).
