So my Ipod shuts off one day and refuses to come back on...well it does up until you see the apple sign and then it procedes to shut itself off. Anyways after this happens NONE of my songs show up under any category, ie Artists, Genre, Playlists...etc. So finally I get it to hook back up to my computer and im thinking that somehow my harddrive got wiped. Except in music match it shows that there are about 12 Gigs of used up memory with 8Gigs left.

So I'm thinking that some how the Ipod just isn't able to find my old tracks. I've downloaded the newest updater but still nothing. Any ideas? Its a 1st Gen PC Ipod that I bought a good two years ago. Funny thing though is that those OEM ear buds has lasted me these entire two years....that's bad ass in my book.

maybe bad battery? ipod users have complained about weak battery life. some dude even got so pissed he went around NYC and graffitied how weak the battery was on all the ipod advertisements.

Actually I read where there is a pending class action lawsuit against apple because, according to a former engineer, apple designed the first iPODs to only last 2-3 years. Evidently they put a limited lifespan on one of the processers.

You may want to do a search on the web to find more info. This lawsuit made the news about 8 months ago.

Good Luck.

Did a quick google and found too pending suits because of the batteries.

both of those suits are about battery life. both reek of money grubbing law firms and lack substance, given that you can replace batteries yourself for $50 or have apple do the trick for $100.

Haha, thats funny considering I ordered my F1 right after Interbike last year and had to delay it due to availability/bike choices/money reasons. I probably got to see the bike in person (both protos actually) before you had even heard of it :thumb:

Rio Karma cost $30-40 (I forget) for battery replacement, but the batteries aren't defective, so you'll probably buy a new player instead of getting ripped off by Apple by the time you need a new battery :p

I just dropped my IRiver-IHP120 (only about 2-3feet) and IRiver is going to give me a brand new player because the hard drive pooped out. Only thing that sucks is losing 18GB of music. F Apple, Iriver 4 Eva.

Naw it ain't the reset. Thing...it works fine now...except I cant' get it to hook up with Music match anymore and I'm still missing 12 gigs of music. Yeah the battery sucks but what you gonna do?
