Ok, as DNA said, I was swapping one set of vintage '01 steel EggBeaters between my two bikes using a pair of channel locks as a pedal wrench. So, I finally ordered up a new pair of pedals for my Racer X....

Twin Ti's...

3 pairs? Really? I've got a pair of old school Ritchley Logics that I have had for around 6 years and a set of flats that I've had for a year and a half. They are beat to hell but they still work fine, the bearings aren't dead yet.

3 pairs per year seems high... You all must ride in really rocky conditions or put a hell of a lot of miles on them.

Lots of rocks, lots of miles, and a sub 14" BB.

If it wasn't for that, i'd probably need to replace springs once a year at least anyways.

When I lived in the northeast - a pair a year.

Now in Southern California - same ones that I got before I left the NE 3 years ago.

I have to rebuild my eggies every few months then at some point a rock will break them or the spring gets so loose they get tossed. I have them on 3 bikes so each bike gets a new pair once a year or so.

I wear cleats out quickly too. On occasion I can find the cheap eggbeaters for only a little bit more than a new set of cleats costs.

don't you have to use an allen wrench for crank bros pedals? you shouldn't be allowed near bikes with tools...

I won a pair of those in a raffle and promptly traded them for some body armor. I already had a pair of the cheap cromo ones I bought for fifty bucks. Twinti eggbeaters are pointless, kind of like your blinged-out SS. :)
