Out of my mind, back in a moment.
Presenting my new toy. Built basically from a frame and spare parts.

Not too bad. The bottle cage was the first thing installed so I had a place to hold the beer throughout the rest of the build. I'm feeling like Stosh at the moment, since I don't have a front derailleur to fit the bloody thing (TS/TP, NOT BS/TP, damn misleading intarweb) and I test rode it today as a 1x9. Not too bad after trying it in the neighborhood. Accelerates a good bit quicker than my Dawg and seems to be more tossable.

Overall not bad, and pretty impressive.

SO lets hear what spare parts you used to build it up ? looks nice

and what kind of fork is that in the background ?
Beth provided:
Kona XC riser bars
Truvativ Fire XC crankset
'Zocchi MZ race fork
HFX9 brakes
Tioga Red Phoenix tires

I had hanging around:
Bontrager stem
WTB Speeddisc wheels
LX Shifters
LX rear derailleur
WTB saddle
Shimano pedals

I bought the truvativ BB, frame (with shock and headset), grips, chain and seatpost to complete it.

I still need a fricken front derailleur though.

That is a sweet lookin' ride for a somewhat random weekend build! What roll is she gonna play? Backup?
Going to play "backup" when the trails are smooth enough to go with less than 4" travel. Sometimes the Dawg is juat a little too much cush for big climbing days, and the shorter travel will make me pick better lines without destroying my back like a hardtail.

Nice! After a new fork it'll be a quality ride for sure.

Maybe look at a Marzocchi MX Comp. They're cheap and pretty nice. You can get 'em w/ ETA for climbing too. Rebas are nice for sure but they're spendy.

MX comp from 06? I might have a look into that. Really looking for something light and (preferably) airsprung.

I'm currently hoping to get it built as follows:

X9 shifters/derailleur with XT front derailleur
Carbon riser bar
Carbon post
Easton or FSA stem
Some kind of lighter (more trouble free) discs
Float R shock
Reba or SID fork
Next crankset with 29/42 rings
11/30 cassette
FSA XC300 wheelset
FSA Platinum BB

All in good time though.

The older MX Comps are cheap. The ETA one is coil w/ air assist. It's a good fork for the money, at least consider it.

sweet ride. those frames always look so funky to me with the pivot right behind the bb and the mega dropped chainstays. enjoy it man.
