WTF? There aren't any more bolts on that bike than any other normal F.S bike. (Well, except for the derailleur hanger.)

If it was a Nucleon ST, that comment might slide...

I think you need a longer shock. Did you buy it with that?
It originally had a 5th on it but the spring was to heavy for my weight so the guy that was building the bike up for me put the Romic on there. So I am pretty sure that it is an ok length. It does look pretty short in those pics though.

I got dual 8inch Galfer waved rotors with ss brake lines and Galfer pads. I am hoping that they will be better than the stock Hayes stuff. Here's a pic....

So the Romic is just temporary, right? Even so, it'd probably be better to run a shock that's a little oversprung but the right size, than a shock that's going to whack out your geometry like that Romic. What is your bb height, like 12"? You may want to at least run it in the long travel setting to raise the bb a bit.

I knew something didn't look quite right when I looked at the bike, but couldn't put my finger on it. It looks like the chainstays are actually sloping down in the direction of the BB. That's not right. Oh, and another tip, or maybe something you just didn't notice, but you have a 3rd chainring on there. You might want to slap a bashguard on there considering that you have flat pedals on it and 8" disc rotors (as well as that fork), I would think that the implied style of riding would justify a bash guard instead.

Ya I have a bash just didn't put it on yet because I don't have the right size ring. I have like a 26, 38, bash but the 38 sticks out past the bash so I need to get a 36. I know it looks dumg like that. And I am not to sure about that chainstay sloping I just looked at the pic and it does slope down. I am gonna have to get a longer shock most definately.

The Romic was what I was going to keep on it but now that I see that it is too short a stroke I think I might get a new Romic or a Fox DHX. My bb at the longest travel setting is about 11.5". Also from the post a few up from this one, it looks like because of the small shock that my chainstay is not level, but sloping towards my bb, which is wrong, unless this certain Nicolai is supposed to be like that?

Ok, here is my bike with it at the longest amount of travel. Tell me if you still think that the shock looks like it is too small.

I think you need to ask Nicolai what i2i and stroke shock is supposed to be on there, then go buy the proper 5th element. I wouldn't mess around with any other shock after having one of those. They are a tad heavy, but if you can afford that bike, you can afford a Ti spring too... ;)

 - and with a 7" fork on there, too!

Way too low.. Whoever put that shock on there didn't know what they were doing. You may not be getting the travel you think you are, if they gave you too short a stroke, or you may be getting full travel and it's just too short an i2i. Or maybe it's both. But regardless, it's not the right shock and it's probably giving you a nasty-slack headangle though it doesn't look too slack in the pictures...

ok so in that case... does anyone know what the i2i is supposed to be? or the shock stroke? Just to make sure, when you measure the bb height you go from the floor to the bottom of the bb, right? or is it the top of the bb?

Well, I looked up the 2003 Nicolai Nucleon DH on Progressive's webpage, and sure enough, it's not on their webpage. The only one close is the 2003 Nucleon FR, and that's no guarantee that it's the same shock. For that bike you need an 8" x 2.25" shock, and since you have the DH version, I can only assume that your shock should be at least as large as that on the FR version. As such, what you have on there is definitely not that large. So get that 5th back from they guy who built it up for you (no matter what it takes...), and just buy a new spring. It might be worth your while to have that 5th serviced in the near future if it has been ridden a lot with no factory service too. Just e-mail Nicolai with your questions, I'm sure they'd be glad to help.
Oh, and I measure BB height from floor to center of BB spindle. That's what I've seen done in geometry drawings of certain frames.

My shock i2i is 8" and my stroke is 2.25". I looked on progressives site also and saw the 2003 Nicolai Helius ST. It had an 8.75 i2i and a 2.75 stroke. So I am going to get that shock back. Also my derailleur hanger does hit the frame and with the shorter shock than usual my tire hits the frame! And my bb height is 12.75" from the center to the ground in the most travel setting. Here is a pick of what I have seen...

Take the spring off and cycle it through the travel and see what hits. Be careful though not to push too hard with the spring off incase something does hit you dont want to hurt anything.

I did and my derailleur hanger hits. but nothing else does. Well I undid the bold and went throught the travel with nothing there. IDK if it does the same thing though.

So yeah, whoever sold/set the bike up for you was either shady or incompetent. Get your shock back, get the right spring on it, and don't let them touch your bike ever again.

yea i had a Helius(mine i could adjust bb height), you won;t be able to go through all of your travel before the rear tire starts rubbing the frame. and by the loks of it it'll be about half your travel.

its weird to see it in a different color, very nice though. like the color choices of the other frame aswell.

on the FR its a 7.75eye+eye, and a 2inch stroke. the romic with the 2.25 stroke was a 8incheye+eye and i have to have the adjustable bb height to use it properly

take back the 5th. call Progressive and tell them what rate spring you need. ship your current spring and they'll ship you the proper spring for free. I did that and got a 325 spring to replace the 375 for my bullit. quick turn around.

Really? That could save some $$$$. I'm sure that the guy that built it for me is going to give me the right spring along with the right size shock so I shouldn't have to do that..... But if I do that's good to hear.
