It is an action ordered/put into place by the Military to extend your "enlistment" past your original active duty contract date. In my wifes case her active duty was extended from November 1990 to May 1991.

And most importantly, it's involuntary. So any planning you did to transition to civilian life is probably ruined.

I miss my tackers when I go away for 2 weeks, couldn't imagine what it's like for a year plus. Any job that takes you away from your kids for large periods of time sucks in my book.
