But this time in a good way!!!!! Built another EX 823 (had one) last week when I found a crack in the EX 729 after its one ride. Anywho this time ran between 35-38psi and came out okay!!!! :thumb: It's a little harder than I normally like to run it, 30psi is what I prefer to run it at, but kinda started getting used to it. Readjusted the low compression adaptor on the 888 to show 4 holes and it seemed to regain a little more of its plushness while still eliminating most of its dive while in the berms. Its still a litttle harsh on the smaller bumps but a nice improvement. All in all a kick ass day!!!!!!!

Yeah, the tradeoffs of being a bigger rider/thrasher...

I'd love to run like 25-30psi all the time. The tradeoff is that you can do that most of the time but that ONE square-edged rock or step that you hit at high speed will do you in, it will be a 1 in 100 or 1000 occurance, but it'll eventually happen, and kill the rim. It's all a tradeoff..one way or another, it's more money though :( More money for rims, or more money for sticky-tires that wear out faster, etc....

One time not to long ago I was riding my XC bike with a guy that works at a diff shop than me and I got a flat. My first flat in a long time, and I got a thorn or something, but he asked how much psi I was running and I said 40-45, and he said "oh, that's way to much, you'll flat less if you run less pressure". That didn't click in my brain in terms of pinch flatting, usually more pressure prevents that, but the one thing that I know for sure is that I hate building wheels, and am going to run as much pressure as necessary to preserve my rims. I definitely learned my lessons on this years ago when I flatspotted mavic and sun rims.

How did slice do on his rebuilt fork? Hope he had a better time out there too! I want to go back :(
Its way better, plus made some other adjustments to the bike while on Boondocks, he said he was having trouble getting comfortable on the bike. Now we got it dialed in perfect:thumb:

Went in a did a bunch of trailwork Sunday. I'm going on the "It's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask permission program. The new guy is there to collect a paycheck and doesn't take care of our baby like Forrest And I did when we worked there. Also trying to keep more open during races next weekend.

Trade off of running really low pressure more like. I only weigh 125lbs but would damage rims at 30 psi.

Course unknown, but here is what I'm recommending to TBB. Start at the Karpiel entrance@ Flameout/Sinuous/Karpiel. This will mean that more can be kept open. Middle "old Karpiel" that will leave MOST of Sticks/Dogbone open except for lower section. Bottom slabs to vietnam=Ex/Pro and Phoo-Dog for the Beg/ Sports. Race is Saturday I think so Sunday shold be all clear anyway.

N*'s web site says the 19th, unless they changed it.

This weekend is the Cal State race which happens on Saturday. The following weekend is a regular N* race which will occur on Sunday.

What's the Beg/Sport course like? I've never been to Northstar before, and I'm thinking about going.

Is it flowy or just really bumpy? If stuff's really flowy and jumpable, I might ride my HT.

i am a complete newb and don't have any other lift assisted riding to compare it to but in my opinion the trails at northstar aren't very "flowy". It's pretty rocky and you have to be good at picking lines, otherwise you end up over the bars on alot of the trails there.

I'm sure there are better lines but.... seems to me the lines go from worse to worser :eviltongu

I'd definitely bring the big hit, unless you want to give yourself a challenge!

The Mavic rep. was at my LBS yesterday, and I saw him pulling out fresh new rims out his travel case. One of them he described as the replacement for the ex823, the rep. commenting on all the problems that rim was having. I "think" it was called the 325, but don't quote me on that. Funny thing is I've been riding/stacking on the same d3.1's for 2 years and don't see flat spots as a problem. Is this only a problem if you run tubes and fear rolling the tire off on the flat spot?

Which brings me to another frustrating topic. Why does Mavic re-number their rims EVERY year? Why not stick with one name or number and introduce it as "the 2005 d3.1...stronger than last year." Seems like Turner should be doing that too...6 pack = RFX, 5spot = longer XCE, Burner = o2. Just tell us the new one is lighter or has more travel...don't re-name it!

that is good news...maybe I'll get my replacement rims soon?

Everyone I know that flat spotted them were running tubeless setup...I would assume otherwise. If you run tubes you would be less prone to flat spotting.
