I already come very close to flipping out on airplanes. That could possibly be what would push me over the edge.

When that applies to domestic flights, that will drive me to buying an expensive set of noise reduction headphones and a high capacity MP3 player.

Otherwise I'd have to figure out how to make a bomb out of Ritz crackers and Sprite, and blow up the plane to silence the chatter of idiots.

A majority of business travelers (61 percent) oppose the idea of being able to use their phones in the sky, according to a global survey conducted by travel management company Carlson Wagonlit Travel early this year.
why don't they listen to their customers?

Give people broadband, let them hack away at emails and blackberries, let them text their thumbs off. Do not let them speak.

I agree.

And BV, those noise cancelling earphones are a little disappointing... Even the Bose QCIIs...

Nah, I meant more akin to what narlus posted - some high quality ear buds that go into your ear canal.

I have to agree with the majority of audio people in their assessment of Bose products being teh suck. My girlfriend's dad has a set of speakers from them which, upon first listen seemed fine but the more I listened, the less I liked them... speakers were too small to product even modest bass, so half the voices were coming out of the subwoofer in the corner, stuff like that. I tried a set of earphones from them that were also underwhelming.

the bose mini-cubes are over-rated (got a set) but my bose 901 series 2 speakers kick ass.

Cool, what are those? I've got a pair of SHUREs that I got off the Apple site. Similar to those, but with no noise cancelling...
Those aren't noise cancelling either, they're noise isolating... basically they plug your ears.

Works like a charm. I just have the sony ones (something-82 if I remember) and they work great on planes.

I have the sony ones too. They are nice and small and no hard plastic so I can lay my head on something without feeling like I am getting stabbed in the ear.

I've got an El Cheapo set of noise cancelling headphones. I think they work just fine. They certainly reduce the amount of noticable ambient background noise (plane's engines for example) to allow me to concentrate on the music. However, I never expected them to turn off that schmuck gabbing right next to me so I only hear the music. I think that is expecting too much.

I love this board, post something serious and it diverges into something inane. Post something inane and it turns into a serious discussion of headphones or something similar. Awesome. Keep up the good work!
