NAACP Joins Lawsuits Against Waffle House Restaurants

(naacp press release)

i'm just a dumb white boy, so someone 'splain this to me:
“The NAACP supports this effort to obtain justice and respect for African American consumers and other people of color,” said Ciccolo. “The NAACP will continue to demand fair and equal treatment and respect for African Americans and other people of color in dining establishments.”
what about "colored people"? shouldn't they get representation, too?

if anyone is in alabama or georgia, can you post a pic of a waffle house with a cracker barrel in the same block? that would be de-licsh

"Colored People" is what my grandparents used to say, and really is not generally used anymore other than... nah, won't go there.

The article states "People of Color", that is their catch all for 'other'.

Yes, but we live in america. So since Heinze Ketchup was served there, obviously John Kerry was partially responsible... :D

So, since I'm white, can I sue a black for unfair treatment because he was being "racist" ?
If you were denied somethign and the reason was becasue you are white - Yes... technically. Have fun with that one though... :blah:

Here's something useful that the NAALCP can sue about that just might actually HELP their cause:

SOCIAL SECURITY Shortchanges African-Americans
USA Today | July, 2001 | Michael Tanner
Since lifetime Social Security benefits depend, in large part, on longevity, those groups with shorter life expectancies, such as the poor and blacks, are put at a severe disadvantage. African-American men and women both have shorter life expectancies than do their white counterparts. Although some observers have suggested that this lower life expectancy is income-related (lower-income individuals have shorter life expectancies than do wealthy individuals, and blacks, on average, have lower incomes than whites), the shorter life expectancy of African-Americans appears to hold across all income levels.

As a result, a black man or woman earning exactly the same lifetime wages and paying exactly the same lifetime Social Security taxes as his or her white counterpart will likely receive a lower rate of return. Because African-Americans have lower average incomes than whites, they do benefit from Social Security's progressive-benefit formula, which generates a higher rate of return for low-wage workers. However, that progressivity is not enough to offset the lower return due to life expectancy.

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but if the larger problems with regard to discrimination is occuring in our nations "Waffle Houses" I think Mr King would be happy.

I think they should boycot all Waffle Houses to show them their disgust with the mighty dollar.

The NAACP is possibly the biggest bunch of bitches ive ever seen other than PETA and ELF. Shut your mouth NAACP, racism isnt a problem any more (of course there are exceptions), if anything now, its reverse racism. At school, black kids call white kids Crackers and racist terms all the time, and never get trouble, but if some one were to say the N word the school would get sued.

HAHA!!! No more racism!!! HAHA!!!

I don't mind discussing how the NAACP could be a hinderance to today's civil rights movement (did you know the NAACP was instrumental in getting schools desegregated?). But no more racism?

Maybe your school has solved the problem of bigotry, but try visiting the South some time. I remember the first week I was there, some old-timer busted out the N-word (and I mean he said "I hate those damn n------s"), right in front of a black man. No racism there...

From racial profiling to simple discrepency in take-home pay of the different races, there is still a lot of work to be done.

P.S. I am sorry your feelings got hurt because someone called you Whitey. When you apologize for 250 years of discrimination in America, we will call it even.

P.S. I see you are from Litchfield. I used to live in downtown Hartford. Take a drive over to my old street (Mortson), get out your car and walk a block in any direction, and tell me racism is not a problem in America.

That fear you feel as my old neighbors stared at your should tell you something...

You are sooooooo right it's not even funny.

However, I must say... my little bro has lashed right back at em when he was called a cracker. :thumb: hehehehe.

Hmmm.... since we weren't alive when that happened.. I don't believe we had much say in it, now did we? If you want to go yell at some people about it, go pick a tombstone in the national cemetary. That might actually get you somewhere. *Most* of the whites today are more accepting than ever, and how dare you say WE are the cause of those PAST troubles. The boat sank, get over it. :mumble:

Ok, I forgot to explain why cracks against whites are not as bad as cracks against blacks.

I know everyone on ridemonkey has never owned a slave, but the prosperity and opportunities you enjoy today was built somewhat on exploitation and denied opportunity of miniorities in the past. From Indian Reservations to the Chinese Exclusion Act (and of course slavery), there has been a history of it in America.

Now, you might say this was two centuries ago. Well, specifically about racial slurs, keep in mind the history of these words. In the past, when whites said "n*****" aloud, it usually meant at best something bad was going to happen (like "sit in the back of the bus"), or at worst something really bad was going to happen (or "go get the rope"). There is a history to the N-word which carries a lot of power, one of the reasons why it is the most powerful curse word out there.

However, when I hear words like cracker or white-boy, all I think about is George Jefferson yelling honky.

Dude, yeah, sure, there are always going to be people in white hoods. I used to live in new haven, i know. But the NAACP isnt going to stop some old dude from callling a black dude a ***er. What they are doing today is a bunch of BS.

They should be more concerned with the black community and trying to fix the problem of the rap star/gangster image and less focus on how diverse a ****ing waffle hut is. I agree 100% with Bill Cosby on this issue.

Dude, you live in CT, so your opinion on racism doesn't really count. Come out here to cali, and you see that it still is a problem..........

Actually, CT is similar to Cali in race problems. Some ways worse.

As for the NAACP and Waffle Hut, there is some importance. I remember at Denny's, me and my friends noticed that black parties of any size were usually put in the back of the restaurant (typically only the bigger parties were put back there).

No biggie, but there was widespread discrimination in the Denny's chain, including a group of black Secret Service agents denied service.

And I personally agree with Bill Cosby about taking responsibility. I just think it is "Good for us", not "Good for them".

has it ever occurred to anyone that the insistence of prefix-american is part of the problem?

why does everyone have to be african/hispanic/japanese/chinese/blah blah blah american? what happened to just being an american? personally i refuse to address or refer to anyone as african american or otherwise. i know the first thing the libbies like to say in response is that is an affirmation of their heritage. how many of those that insist that this prefix be used can actually recite anything about this precious heritage?

the problem is never going to go away unless those pointing the finger that whitey is STILL respsonsible for so much racism admits that they themselves are guilty of it as well.

oh wait i forgot..minorities are incapable of racism

This was the crap that Bush tried to sell the Black Leadership of the House the other day - unfortunately it has been proven false many years ago
In fact, African Americans benefit MORE from Social Security due to lower average wages nationwide and many of the monies being received are for disability and or survivor benefits

but thanks for believing the lies that Bush Co. is selling you - I somehow doubt you are a major shareholder in the companies that are making the stinky cash off Bush's policies, so you probably should hope to God SS is still around when you are of retirement age...or maybe dog food isn't that bad?

You're right. All that money I made working in bike and welding shops came from some dead guys owning slaves. Yeah if they had never owned slaves I wouldn't be able to make money today. :nopity:
