While I am very sad for the parents of this girl I can't help but wonder:

Would we even know about this case on anything more than a local level if the girl was goofy looking, pimplefaced and overweight?

Kinda like the runaway bride story.

I mean, people go missing all the time in the US, it seems like we find out about them more often when they are good looking white girls.

Right now there is an Amber Alert in California for a mexican girl abducted in Sonoma by her drug addicted mother who left a note saying that she intended to kill herself and her daughter. Why is that not on the news?

There was an Onion article once about an unattractive girl who was abducted. It was sadly hilarious. Their archives aren't free anymore, though, so I can't share to poignant hilarity with all of you.

That is all.

Its true. Its a crying freakin shame that ALL the abducted kids cant get publicity like this.

On the other hand this could be a publicity stunt to reinforce why we need the Patriot act. I have no idea how this applies, but if it's George W then there is a way...

I think he has a point True... Bush is digging VERY deep to keep his control. Funny that some people that Bush put into power in Ohio are getting busted for stealing Gov funds. The same people helped run the election in Ohio. Man.... what is that aweful smell. Because this sure smells funny.

There is debate about media bias with crime stories. But the media is based on perception, so I haven't been worked up about this subject should cover more (although there are plenty of topics which are covered too much Michael Jackson).

Anyway, I remember a story about another Amber Alert about a child kidnapped in a stolen car. Well turns out the kid was at grandma's, which they figured out after the stolen car was recovered. Apparently neither parent realized they had dropped off the kid...

I point this out because the Amber Alert is very questionable at this point. I hope this is the case with this kid.

Sadly, you're right. I live in Southern California, and have not heard about the Amber alert. Which is really sad, since she might have made her way into Southern California.

You have gone off the deep end.

So the Bush administration orchestrated the abduction and probable killing of some random 18 year old girl in Aurba. All so that people wouldn't pay attention to Iraq right?
DT takes it to the extreme yet again! 01010101010101010101010101010101010101

this shouldnt even be a story, im sorry while it is truly sad for her family I dont really care. DT is right if she was brown it wouldnt be a story, in fact if there werent 24 hour news channels with only 4 to 5 hours of television worthy news they wouldnt glom onto this sort of a story.

As tragic as the peterson case was, it never should have been a national story. Here in the bay area yes, but not much beyond.

Laci got so much news because
A: she was very attractive
B: pregnant
C: slow news cycle during the Holidays (i mean how many stories can you run about drunking santas and record christmas sales reciepts.
D: A & C.

I dont mean to trampel on the dead, but the media hung onto that case forever and worse yet profited grotesquely off of it.

Did powell not make the assertion that the entire Holloway deal was orchestrated by the Bush administration?
Uh, No. He meant it would not be below them to use the story to promote their agenda. Remember all that 'news' they paid for before? Do ya?

Well, chang, maybe you two talk to each other off line, or you somehow posess the ability to look deep into his mind and find the deeper meaning or some sort of BS, but that IS what he said.

Until such a time as I develop a keen psychic spidey sense such as yours, I have to go on the words people use as opposed to taking into account the biorythms at the time they were penned.
