Hey everybody, I wanted to start a common thread here for info on the national championships. I'll try and check back regularly to answer questions, but know this -

-SolVista Bike Park is the host venue for the race.

-Bigfoot Productions (think Mountain States Cup) is the promoter.

-Go to www.solvistanationals.com for questions about the race.

-Go to www.bikesolvista.com for general bike park info.

-Twitter links here - http://twitter.com/bikesolvista and http://twitter.com/granbyranch

We'll keep the twitter sites and bikesolvista site updated with pics and info on tracks as we get them online and ready to ride. The USAC folks are here today for a site visit, so stuff should be getting finalized pronto. Please forward/copy this link for the xc peeps too!

For those of you making travel plans, we have decided to open the bike park on Tuesday and Wednesday (for four hours in the afternoon each day) so everyone can come early and have some fun before practice officially begins. Stay tuned to www.bikesolvista.com for exact hours, but think noon-to-four-ish.

Thanks and we look forward to seeing you all in a month.

Does anyone know if we can park an R.V. on site? If so, any details?
We're traveling from PA and would hate to have to rent a car to get back and forth from the closest official RV Park. Staying on site would solve that problem.:huh:

There will be limited RV parking at the venue for a fee I believe. Contact www.solvistanationals.com for res info and rates.

Regular bike park trails will be open unless they are being used for competition or practice. Riders with scheduled practice times will have lift boarding priority over "freeriders" and regular park customers.

Any idea what course will be used for non-pros? It'd be nice to put in a little extra practice time on that course during the next few weeks.
We've been thinking a lot about what courses/features to use for the Cat 1, 2, 3 course, and we've decided we like parts of Cougar, Drifter, BucNasty and Cheeze It and it's offshoots, Tron? and Ashy Larry. Then we realized how good it was racing Silky and Moga's mile has some of the best corners on the track. Loosie is rarely ridden, so it would be good to have in the track as well.

Quick message for you RV guys!

I talked with Sarah at Bigfoot Productions yesterday and here's the scoop: she is taking reservations for on-site RV camping with NO HOOKUPS. She has the schematic and space allotment down, and it's a first-come, first-serve sort of deal. Money for RV parking will be collected at the venue once you're in your spot, not sure who is collecting SolVista or Bigfoot but that's how it was explained to me. Sarah can contacted via email sarah@racemsc.com or phone at (720) 407-6142.

Carry on.

It's not gonna end with three laps around the pump track?

after the pump track you have to go to the Oskar Blues RV and slam a Dales Pale Ale. Then you'd truly be National Champion.

I got all stoked cuz I live 1 hour away. Then I realized I can't race cuz I just downgraded to Cat 1 and you have to do a qualifying race first. I just got back to the mainland after 3 months surfing and there's no DH races within driving range before nationals:-)
The season is really front loaded in Colorado this year. Mountain States Cup is already half over. Does this seem weird considering Vail just opened and Keystone has yet to?
Up here summer doesn't start till mid June (June 21st is the 1st day of summer everywhere) so shouldn't more racing happen in July than May?
Remember when Worlds and National finals happened at the end of summer?
Why is MTB racing being changed from a summer sport to a spring sport?

I'll still race Super D cuz you don't have to qualify, so I'll be there to cheer on the Summit County boyz.

No worries! I just posted the 4X construction pictures over on the official site, and started a FAQ page with all the questions posed in this thread as well as others. I also posted the RV info on the "Where to stay" page. Hopefully that'll help clear up some confusion!

Alright, I'm off to bed... heading up to SolVista in the morning, I hear they have too much gnar up there and need some of it shredded off.

Just a little teaser for everyone, this is going to be part of the pro DH track that is yet to be finished. We are getting all the courses ready, and we hope we make it, one and a half weeks to go... The first is from the front of three jumps, and then looking down on the middle jump. Again though, none of the courses are done, nobody is allowed on them (we can't even ride it, we have not built it all).

Very nice Courses! One question on category 1 and pro/semi pro...

So is pro using a different course than Cat 1? And those jumps look very nice and big, is the Cat 1 course going to have any nice jumps like those pictured in for the pros?

wow... so this is a huck race? lol jk looks pretty sick, and in all honesty its gonna be scary the first couple times boosting those jumps, don't think i've ever jumped stuff that big outside of whitsler. and those are all tables. should be fun! hopefully I can drag the family along so they can get a taste of real dh. The only race they've ever watched me do is elings park.

actually I take it back that track looks a lot like elings park LOLZ!

They might not be too bad. They look pretty drawn out. if the landings are pretty long, they might be ok. But yeah, there is going to be some carnage. Hope it's not windy out there.

the pro downhill jumps are well-built and designed. they're not bucky or lippy or in a place of unknown speed like the MSA jump that claimed so many. there are 6 foot table top jumps that take people out. size is not the only factor in determining a safe jump.

this track is to prove who the best professional downhiller in the country is. it should be difficult, challenging and a little scary. it should make uneducated spectators sh!t themselves and go, "WOW!". the top 2/3 of the course is natural, technical and also full of speed and corners. the bottom 1/3 showcases jumping and speed in the open. it is well-rounded.

i'm pretty sure anyone who will actually be in contention for the top spot will have no problems with these jumps. in fact, i can't wait to see strait, cody warren, jd and gwin (among a boatload of others) scrub and whip the crap out of these monsters!

^^^I'm with you. This track should be challenging. I just wish i could be out there to watch the races. Those are going to be awesome. I love watching the pros on crazy tracks. Trips me out how fast they are really going. Bums me out too cuz it makes me realize i suck. :0)
I'm thinking Gwin for the win.
