That ring size is too small to fit the BCD of a 104mm spider. It'll only fir on a 58/94 BCD crank. Look at how close the teeth on a 32t ring come to the chainring bolts. A 29 just won't make it.
Hmm... I'm trying to get world cup gearing on my XTR cranks. I'm ditching the little ring, replacing the middle with a 29t and keeping the big ring... at least thats what I want to do.
What is wrong with 32/42? If you have to run a 29 you shouldn't be running 2x9!. If you look at all the pro's that are running 2x9 they are running at least a 32, if not a 34. I bet you'll find a 32 to woek just fine...
Yes, I have been looking too. I've been running 2x9 for the past year and love it. I've got cranks with 110mm, 104mm, and 94mm on different bikes. Love the 2x9. Ride 29t on one and 30t on another. both work good, but I like the little extra for steep climbs over the 32t. Just found a 30t at http://www.sales.light-bikes.com/extralite/extralite.asp
made by extalite. a bit pricy, but worth it if the arms are still good. I find that the 30x42 is perfect for me, but will work with a 44t also, which is what is on my racebike. Surprised that nobody else makes them?? 2x9 is the only way to fly!!!
Also forget to mention, one of my cranks is a xtr m952 which many people make spiders for 110mm and 94mm bolt patterns. I got a older xt spider in 94 and had to file a little(verry little) to make work. Don't know if people make spiders for new m960's or not?
