Hey guys.

I'm pretty new to this forum, but I know some of you from riding.

I have a 2003 Iron Horse SGS Expert. It came with a 2004 Manitou Swinger 3-way coil (not factory) and I have put a 2004 Boxxer Race on it. I'm having a little technical difficulty with my rear suspension on it. It's a small frame (17"), and I'm convinced that the shock is either the wrong stroke or eye-to-eye length.

The reason I believe this is that when I have the shock in the 7" position, the rear tire rubs the seat flag before the shock bottoms. Does anyone else have this problem? Also, what is the stroke and eye-to-eye length supposed to be?

I can give more info if it's needed, but I figured that no one would read it if I was anymore long-winded than I am already...

Thanks in advance,

Carl

No. I'm speaking of the part of my frame that holds the seat post. I have my seat post cut short so that it doesn't hit the swing-arm. There is an IHBC sticker there and my tire has rubbed through it.

What is the actual i 2 i of the shock installed on your frame?

EDIT: FIT LIST FOR A SGS EXPERT - 7.875 i 2 i shock

I'm thinking that you may have the SGS DH, which should have a 8.5 i 2 i  Am I hitting the button there?

I've seen bikes at races with the same problem, I could tell by the paint missing of the seat tube. :|

CAbiker, thanks for that link!

According to that web page, my bike requires a shock body of 7.875" eye-to-eye and 2.25" Stroke length. The Manitou that is on my bike is a 2" stroke length. Hmmm...

I have no idea what the eye-to-eye length on it is, but, I'll figure it out when I take it off for the 4th time. I just went out to look at it, and there is shock oil all over everything! I've sent this thing in for warranty 3 times already.

Figures.

just to clear things up, I think the term you're looking for is "seat mast", not seat flag...

All rise and salute the mighty seat banner!!!

Sounds like you got a shock that's too short for your bike. If you bought it like that used from someone, you need to find them and chuck the shock at their head at a high rate of speed.

sounds like the bike shop put the wrong size on your bike when you got it (new).

you should look at getting a different shock because manitou has been such a pain about trying to fix your shock 2 or 3 times and taking like a month to get it back to you, each time.

you could look for a used fox shock that fits and get it PUSHed...or maybe a 5th if it fits.

sell your KTM so you can get a bike that works and then actually keep up with me ;)

if they won't give you a different size that fits, then you should ask for your money back. Manitou has been really bad to you :stosh:

Hmmm.... I woulda' passed you in that switch back, but you were hogging the entire trail! :eviltongu
Someone must have been REALLY anxious to get to the air conditioned car! Unless of course it was your car which I am almost positive has no air conditioning.

Dude, get a romic. Thats what I would get if my SGS needed a new shock.

your KTM needs to stop blowing up so that you're not always in debt.

a romic might be pretty nice on your SGS, and i think that you should get it because you might have less problems with it and i'm tired of you complaning about not being able to ride your SGS.
