Well about a month ago or so a worker in his work truck somehow backed into me and hit my camaro in the rear. The insurance company sucks. They sent me a check for $3060 and told me that I have to take it to a body shop to have the estimate revised etc... The car was hit and pushed into a car parked infront of me, and was pushed like 6ft while the e-brake was engaged and the tranny in park.

The passenger side rear quater pannel took some brunt, bumper cover is toast, piece that says "CAMARO" is pushed into the key hole for the back, my spoiler is cracked and busted, plus I dunno what is wrong with the hatch lid as I haven't opened it yet. Front is just the bumper cover as it was pushed into a car parked infront of me. Paint is mainly messed up on the front.

My car isn't a normal camaro color. It is a custom brown color that didn't come stock. The car had been in an accident before I bought it (not knowing it was) so they repainted the whole thing. Did a sad job at it too.

So I am wondering, it's a 94, has the mods listed, and the apraiser guy thinks it's market value is around $4900. They will consider my car a total loss at 80% of the market value ($3920). They won't do anything more than give me my check for $3060.

I am wondering is it worth taking it in to get it fixed and risk loosing the $3060 check they sent me or take the chance at it being a total loss? My body shop quoted me about $3722 to repair it but I am not wanting to take a chance knowing I may get my car fixed, but it's not really worth it.

Let me know what you guys think I should be doing here. I've never had this happen so it's a first for me

keep the check, sell the camaro to a junk yard and cut your losses now. Even if you fix it, no one in their right mind other than you would actually drive a brown 94 camaro, let alone pay nearly 5 grand for it.

Do you have a mullet by chance:D

LOL no mullet here!

It's like a golden brown, very odd color but that is besides the point.

I am pretty sure I got a buyer, I am gonna ask $2500 for it, or $2000 without the stereo and all the add-on's which I'll just have to part with on camaro message boards. I have alot of suspension items into the car, plus the stereo which is outdated now, but still worth something. Just to get some more $$$ out of the car.

I wouldn't try to sell it for $5,000. That is stupid. I just want to get rid of it, figuring a kid or someone I might know is looking for cheap transportation, I might have to take someone up on this offer. The damage isn't undriveable, it's just minor cosmetic.

My buddy comes back on Tuesday I think. I'll have to talk to him and spread the word a little bit on it.

Basicly I got hit buy this contractor. His insurance company wrote ME a check and just mailed it. No confirmation, no nothing. They are starting to be such pricks at giving me the needed money to fix my ride (which I am not doing) but it is the point if insurance. IF I get quoted $3722 to fix it a check for $3063 doesn't do me much good.

I've already gone through 2 insurance reps from this guys insurance company and I am about done with doing this. I'm also talking with the lady at the contractors office who they did the same thing with (sent her a check) and she doesn't get it. It's like they are skipping major steps in the process of getting the correct funds to me. I'm hoping the lady at the company can do more about it then I can because I am getting more upset and frustrated at this insurance company I'm about to go find a laywer and find out what the hell is up.

This insurance company CNA is the worst. They have told me different stories each time that I have called and act like nothing changes. Nothing with my claim does change. I'm waiting until I hear back from the contractors office to see what I need to do. It was a hit and run. Even though the guy came back like 3 hours later he still left the scene with no information left on my car or anything. He admitted to hitting it and leaving. I don't want to sue someone or place a lawsuit if it isn't necessary, I'd just like to get the money that I am entitled to as I didn't ask for him to hit my parked car in the morning.

I was gonna use some of the $$$ to go to whislter, N*, or someplace to ride and take a vaction. Gas is going down so N* looks all the better. I just need some weenie honda or something to stuff the bike in and go.

Lets have one last hurrah for the Camaro. Crack out the Krylon and decorate it Mad Max style. We'll load up some paintball guns and go nuts on downtown State St. Burnouts, drive bys, good healthy fun. Then at the end rig up the car send it shooting off the bluffs in IV and call it in stolen to the cops. You'll get another check from your insurance company AND a kick ass time!

Now tell me thats not a good idea!

LOL you guys are funny.

The only thing to really laugh at is it's a v6. I was dumb enough to buy a v6 camaro and not a v8.

An orange Monte Carlo......hmmmm.......nah

I got a buyer who'll give me $2000 cash for the car, but if the insurance isn't going to give me what I need I'm going to ask more for it. Hell it's worth $3000 atleast. The damages aren't so bad it decreased it that much. I figured I could part out the add-on's I did to the car and recoupe $$$ back from it. It'd be a good weekend project but it can be done. The stereo would be a itch to take out.

Maybe I can say $2500 as is or I take everything out and $2000. We'll test the waters with that one.

At this point I want to wait until I am 25 to pickup a new car as insurance hopefully would be a little cheaper. So that's 2 1/2 years. I have a pickup truck so it's not like I don't have a car to use in the meantime while saving $$$ up. I could always make payments but I hated that as insurance for a 22 year old is expensive. Especially full coverage. I might just need a dirtbike to ride around town seeing that's where I go anyways.

Sorry off topic...but what about this?

Last year I got rear ended and the guy who did it took off. The was no damage that I could tell...my pickup is already beat up...but I was so damn pissed that I filed a police report. Well I go pickup a copy of my driving record and that accident is listed ...WTF?!?! Is that going to end up screwing me in the end with insurance companies? Even if it isn't my fault?

Yes. Welcome to the world of insurance. My wife and I had the same thing happen. Sitting at a red light, and out of nowhere, a guy who was in diabetic shock rear-ended us doing 40mph. Nearly totalled our car. Then, since he was so out-of-it, when I went to call the police, he took off. It took the police about 2 months to find him (we had the license plate) because it was filed wrong.

ANYWAY... even though it was 100% the other guy's fault, our insurance was raised because we no longer had an "accident free" record. Really, really sucks.
