Need some new wheels...yes, for my downhill bike

Plastic rims with Hope hubs would be my ideal pick, but given the fact I don't ride the DH bike as much as my trail/AM bike anymore, I'm going to settle for metal wheels.

Deemax... do people still ride these??? They use a wider front rim compared to the rear. I think I'm okay with that. I get all nostalgic when I think of those bright yellow wheels!

I was gonna say the 471s, but for a DH bike you may as well go the tyre profile from the wider rims. The 471 on the back of my Kona is starting to look a bit unhappy, but it has copped some proper abuse and poor line choices from a 200lb hack who refuses to bend his knees on landings.

Both are 27.5 rimzzz

DT Swiss FR 570 or XM 481 are good for me. The 570 is 27.5mm id. The 481 is 30mm id. The 570 is a bit heavier/stronger.

I need 27.5.

I already have a rear 570 on a Saint hub that's about to implode. The front wheel, Saint 20mm on a Stan's Flow Ex could be replaced.

Well, when taking into consideration I'll need my LBS to build the wheels (it got expensive nowadays) and get new hubs, I'm probably better off getting a complete set of Hope wheels: 33mm wide, Hope Pro 4 hubs. Just need a couple new 8" rotors and that should do it.

Why not build yourself? Lacing the wheels is really easy and if you have a good LBS they would do just the truing for you if you don't feel confident doing it yourself.

Unless you've already run carbon and know it holds up for you I would stick with metal. Carbon is great stuff but not for rear rims.

If you like the 570 rims look for a set of the DT Swiss 1950 wheels on PB/ebay etc. Built on 240 hubs with the same rims as 570's and lots of people seem to take them off to "upgrade" for some reason. Wife and I are both rocking them tubeless on our DH bikes.

edit: Looks like I paid $365 last year on ebay for the brand new set we put on my wifes DH bike and I paid $500 for my set a year prior.

Did they discontinue the FR 570? They seem hard to find now and they're not on the DT website.
