For grips....
ODI Ruffian MX lockons or Oury lockons?

For pedals....
Which ones? I might just get new pins for mine and try to get another year out of them, but if not, which pedals (other than a-frames)?

For a full face helmet....
What kind? If you say TLD, please give a backup also.

For a chain tensioner....
Which one? (not chainguide, chain tensioner)

Please backup your opinions with reasons. Not just I like this because I do.

Everything except chain tensioner is for a DH rig. Chain tensioner is for a trials bike.

Thanks
Nick

The first three are very subjective, and all depends on what you find comfortable yourself. It's like asking "what shoe size should I buy?".

For pedals, anything you like but Atomlab. A quick search of the boards will give you more than enough reason to avoid them.

For the helmet, find whatever fits your head first, then your budget and work backwards from there.

My preferences:

grips: Ruffian lock-ons

pedals: Tioga MX Pro platforms

helmet: 661 Full Bravo

chain tensioner:

I'm with Dexter:

Grips: Ruffian's...Rogues are too big for me, so are the oury's

Pedals: Tioga MX Pro's - I tried Azonics, Easton's, etc... and the Tioga's are the only ones that lasts. Plus they have great grip and big platform surface.

Helmet: owned and used 661, Giro Mad Max and TLD. the 661 is on the end of my list. I prefer the TLD, but they are almost too nice to even wear ;)

Chain Tensioner? no clue.

Oury's all the way! They're like a couch for your hand.

Primo Super Tenderizers, cheap, great feel, great grip.

Unless you have to worry about pegs going on over it, a chain tensioner is a chain tensioner, get one of those cheesy $2 ones, who cares.

For vertical dropouts bud..... not horizontal.
Something that either grips the chainstay and pulls/pushes the chain to make it tighter or something that is screwed into the derailleur hanger. Whatever it is, it involves springs.

Grips... Intense Lockons.. love 'em

Pedals: Axiom road gaps

FF: I'm quite happy with my 661 Full Bravo 2, altho carbon would be more pimpin'

Tensioner: cheapo-special

Grips.. I agree the intense lock-ons are great, tried the Oury way too big for my hands

Pedals... I like the Ringle zu-zu cheap, replaceable pins and sealed bearings

Helmet...I have a Bell bellistic ff that has saved my skull a few times, actually it's almost time for a new one and trying to decide myself what next.

Tensioner...24 cycles works well on my ht, you can find them used for cheap. I paid $25 in perfect codition.

NORCAL is the hizzle
Grips: Let me add to the chorus: ODI Ruffians. Have tried others and always come back. Even though I've got pretty big hands I still like the low profile. Softer and bigger = more fatigue.

Pedals: Shimano DX platforms. Bombproof, not too pricey, and I get to think back to years of riding BMX on the original version. Make sure you switch the pegs for the longer ones provided with each new set.

Helmet: Bell Bellistic, pretty cheap and works great, if a little toasty. They are on the small side though so if you've got a big noggin' look elsewhere.

Can't help ya on that tensioner question.
