I made a network between my laptop and desktop today, and I can see shared folders and use the printer. How do I add a password to connect to eachother?

It's a little unclear what you actually want to do. If you can see shared folders and use the printer, what additional functionality do you need? They are "connecting to each other" if you're accessing shared folders or shared printers.
