Yes!!! I got my new bike finally together, an RFX with my dream build (I will post porn later).

Sorry If these seem stupid, but I'm sort of a newbie (a quick learner though).

I'm 165lbs, will be riding NorCal, downhill, freeride, and trail. This is my do everything bike. I'm just starting to drop, just did my first 3ft, yay!

Marz 150fr: wheres the air preload valve? any recommendations on setup?

Avy DHR: I know how to preload, but what are the other adjustments?

Mavic 823 w/ Bluegroove 2.5 front, Nevegal 2.3 rear: I wanna go tubeless.
I got some stans sealant, but my LBS was not able to seat with their compressor, so I have tubes. I'm gonna try the compressor at work, any tricks or info would be great.
BTW stans ust presta valve wouldn't fit on the mavic says my LBS.

Hope M4 mono: vibrating metal sound while not braking! Sounds like somethings loose (not brake squeal), but not when checked?

Thanks for any help, and let me know if anybody wants to ride SC/SF. I ride north SC campus mostly right now. I need to find the trails in pacifica for an afterwork ride.

Cheers, Brad

Avy - compression is the screw-head at the end of the remote reservoir near where the hose connects. Rebound is the brass knurled knob on the lower eyelet (the end that doesn't have the hose coming out). Tighten both knobs for more (slower) damping, back them out for less damping (faster).

Stan's - it's usually easier if the tires have been aired up to high pressure and left to sit for a few days - it tends to straighten out the beads which will make them easier to seat. Kendas seem to have pretty light sidewalls so they shouldn't take a lot of pressure - a guy I know needed 160psi in the compressor to seat his Intense 909s!

I would tend to think that a Presta valve would be extremely hard to seat a bead with - a Schraeder seems to allow much more of a "blast" of air - that's been my seat-of-the-pants impression.

Sounds good... I also ride SC/Gap/Pacifica occasionally, but I live in Menlo Park. For the z150, (I'm assuming you have the coil version) the air preload is under the rebound cap on the right leg. Unscrew the rebound cap and its a little recessed valve that needs a special adapter. Right now I'm running my z150 (on a hardtail) with zero air, partially becuase I'm too lazy to get my hands on a n adapter :). Its been working fine for me, hasen't yet bottomed, even on some sketchy stairgaps, but I'm a pinner light guy (I weigh 120ish) so you might need a little more air depending. Good luck...

you mean the 150 needs a adapter it dosen't come with?? great!
I hate it when they do that! Well anybody know where I can get the adapter in the Bay so I don't have to pay as much in shipping as for the adaptor?

it seems like there's an inherent noise problem with turners and hopes. Noteably the 5 spot would squeal like a pig with hopes, something about a natural resonance frequency of the frame structure and the brake interface. It sounds like what you've got is a problem with the adjustment of the pads and one is dragging on the rotor slightly, maybe it's cocked a little so your pads are actually bumping on the holes in the rotor. I'd put the bike up in a stand and spin the wheels to see if you could narrow down the source of the noise any, maybe pull the lever slightly and spin the wheel to see at what point the noise goes away if it does at all. You may need to face the disc tabs on the frame.

Getting your tires inflated shouldn't be about air pressure but air volume, a schrader valve will let a lot more air volume flow through the tire. Remember that increasing air pressure decreases volume, or viceversa. I've never done the tubeless thing so I can't really help out that much other than to say keep trying.
