Ok so i went to my local pawn shop, i was going to buy a guitar amp i saw there the day before but then i found out it wasn't a tube amp so i was like LATER!! but as i was walking out i saw a pretty cool bike that caught my eye. WHOA! what's that! huh norco scrambler? never heard of it, well its got disk brakes, front fork, do i care to see how much this thing is over my budget? WHAAT! $100 bucks!?! so i bought it. ANYWAYS: as I'm riding it home and jumping off curbs i found out this, the derailleur flaps around A LOT! its common with derailleurs DUH! but once i got home and started reading reviews about people having the derailleur smash into the spokes and breaking off, is there anyway of avoiding this without having to quit jumping? single speed conversion? etc.

also I'm trying to avoid the singlespeed conversion because I ride bmx already and I aint a fan of one gear, plus I'd much rather spend the money on better things like front forks and handlebars.

1) You could have too many links in the chain. All that extra slack can cause the derailleur to slap around quite a bit. Maybe take out some links, but not too many so that you can't use the largest cog in the back without breaking the chain.

2) You can upgrade to a derailleur with a stiffer spring in it (like going from a Sram X7 rear mech to an X0.
