With sram chains you just need to wipe off the excess like when you lube a chain normally.
In winter here so you either have to clean your chain after every ride of lube it with water shortly before each ride. So bothering with different types of lube is a bit of a waste of time.
I use Shimano chain, and I don't remove the factory lube. Since I normally use solvent-based Pro-Link, it gets washed off in the first couple of lubrication cycles.
When it gets real rainy I drop back to automotive 5W30, want to talk about something that turns nasty if used in dry conditions...
So the chain doesn't rust between factory and end user?
That lube is pretty thick, it'd get gunky very quick if you didn't at least wipe off the excess. As for me, I degrease them before installation.
It's probably ont necessary, but I soak a new chain in mineral spirits over night, remove from my parts cleaner, let it completely air dry, and use a good chain lube. As far as a respectable lube, opinions everyone.......
It's a pariffin based goo put on the chain after manufacturing to preserve(keep it from rusting) and extend shelf life. I believe it also states to remove factory lube on the product sheet tht is inserted in the box.
