Havnt posted in a bit, but anyways, Tom Brown Park in Tallahassee, Fl. has a public dirt jump park now. Myself and numerous other riders around town have been lobbying for it for years. With the help of a few very awesome city managers, its become a reality. It is still a work in progress but should be done within a couple weeks. We have one payed employee and the rest of the labor is volunteer effort. If you're in the area feel free to stop by and check it out!

No berms?

Don't get me wrong, public parks are great. But it seems like they are almost always designed with the 1995 mindset that jumps should be in a strait line.... seems boring.

with that said, public parks kick ass!

From my experience with public parks, lines of jumps side by side can be extremely fun; especially when there is tranny on the sides of the tables. You can ride the lines like a skatepark and it is extremely fun.

Cool use of different style and size with the different lines.

Also, good design on the middle line tables--how you made them stepped-up with convex, curved-over landing edge case pads.

Very cool, congrats on your success with getting the park built. I like that y'all did some tables instead of all gaps to give noobs a place to learn.

Surely you realize that sick trails with creative and ever-changing features are the work of dedicated riders obsessed with their project and public parks are the work of public park employees who are just waiting for their shift to end. I know, berms are simple features to create but public park employees are a truely simple breed of human.

The first two lines are straight to help the noobs learn. theres gonna a 4th line to the right with a couple berms, hips, transfers. After its built it is to be rider maintained, so further options and stuff can be built by hand later. The tables ride just like doubles, pretty fun actually.

Congrats on getting your own public DJ park! After a few years of locals tweaking it its gonna be a different park. Keep it up fellas!

BTW: i would steal dirt from the left line and make the right landings wider. Unless your gonna have races on the left =)

Of course they do. Lip and landing determine how a jump rides, not the fact that there is or isn't dirt in the middle. As a noob myself I wish more spots were built with tables instead of gaps but I know that requires a lot more dirt.

I read above that these jumps are a "work in progress" but I just happen to be coming to Tally for a conference this week on Thurs and Fri, I'd love to get a ride in. Are they open yet or off limits till their done? Thanks.

We just build a shelf in front of the lander lip. Keeps you from hooking up the back tire and doesn't take much dirt.

I use this technique too. You just make a little flat top on the landing (usually about 1.5-2.5 feet wide, depending on how big the jump is). It not only makes riding a little safer (especially with front tire cases), it causes less damage to the landing and your bike when you do case, and it slows erosion (a big problem where I ride).

If they're not done, I'm sure those guys would let you help them shape, rake, and pack.

Little update here. The jumps in the pictures posted previously were torn down. This pit that the jumps are being built in was an old outdoor gun range. High levels of lead were discovered in the soil that the jumps were made of. The city removed all of the contaminated soil and let us rebuild them, this time were using a slightly different plan. It has been almost 6 months since the jumps have run due to this discovery, and we just had our first session out there since the lead discovery and rebuild. So once again there are public jumps to ride in Tallahassee. There is a lot more work to be done, this time with tons of hips, transfers and berms incorporated. Heres a little video a local guy made of some dudes riding whats been rebuilt so far.

wow, looks really interesting. I'd love to know how the lines are meant to run. If it weren't for that wheel barrow, it would tough to tell the scale of that work. Keep the pics coming :)!

Looks like I'm going to be in Tallahassee for the first 1/2 or so of February building some "skills features" at Tom Brown Park. How are the jumps looking? I'll bring my hardtail down with me, looks like a ton of fun..

Mike, if you ever get further south give me a shout. I've got a place for you to stay and a pump track that needs some good berms built. Also, when I retire can I get a part time job? :D
