Ok so tonight on a street ride, my stupid stock cranks decided to eat s*** and die. I guess I did one too many drops on em or something. But anyway, I landed a stair set, and heard a nice metallic noise, and suddenly the left crank arm slipped. Mind you, I am religious about keeping those damn bolts tight, since I've seen too many idiots ride with them loose. Besides, if they were loose, the thing wouldve fallen off and not shredded the spindle. Back to my point, now that I'm forced into the market for a new crankset, I want to hear what the masses have to say. Its gonna be on my FR hardtail, so they need to be pretty durable.

saints, haven't seen a broken pair of those, and profile and other bmx style crank sets might be a good idea and if you want durability and not worried about the price as far as i know the most durable crankset is: bonz cranks

A bit of an update on that...took the crank arms off, nothing looks weird. Pull out the bottom bracket, and inside I find two lovely pieces of metal when there was only one to begin with...damn thing snapped in half.

All the recommendations in the world aren't really that useful unless we know what kind of cranks you were riding and broke.

A broken spindle?! Are you riding square tapers?

Any decent pair of ISIS cranks would probably work for you. I personally ride nothing but profiles. They're weighty, but you can find them used for cheap and they're hard to kill.
