I feel like a real noob asking this question, but here goes:

What's the best way to break in my new Hayes disc pads? I've heard of lots of different methods for doing this, and I wanna know the best/most effective way to do it. Thanks.

ride it. Use the brakes. Its the only way to bed in the pads to the rotor. One ride with a couple of good hills where you can ride the brakes for while will usually do it.

I heared that if you get the rotor and pads wet it helps things speed up. It makes a little bit of sense to wash away the metal shavings as they build up in the pads, but I can't say that it will really make your brakes bed in any faster.

Just don't attempt to hose down a rotor that is sizzling hot or else you'll likely warp it.

The best way, for me, is to just ride with them until they break in correctly. If you don't want to do that (having no power kind of stinks) then just go into the street and do a bunch of hard stops. Maybe even stick some dirt on the rotor and let em grind a bit. Works for me.

it depends on the compund of your pads on how long and easy they will take to break in. i had a new set of hayes mecanichal's and i rode them on a dh course a few times and they didnt even break in. but if they are a softer compund it wont take long at all.
